\n\tFolds, bassist Robert Sledge and drummer Darren Jessee are celebrating the 30th anniversary of Ben Folds Five\u2019s self-titled debut album with the release of Ben Folds Five (30th Anniversary)<\/em>, a newly remastered edition set to be released on Sept. 4.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe project pairs the original 1995 record with an unreleased version of the album titled Shelved First Attempt<\/em>. The recently unearthed project is being previewed with the fan-favorite track \u201cUnderground (Shelved First Attempt),\u201d available to fans on Tuesday (June 7).<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHere\u2019s my 59-year-old self\u2019s take on the album we made when I was 28: Overall, it\u2019s good!\u201d Folds writes in the anniversary edition\u2019s liner notes. \u201cIt\u2019s NOT the kind of record you\u2019d hear produced these days. It\u2019s pretty rough and tumble, mostly in a good way. And it\u2019s emphatically unique. It\u2019s from an era when you could still identify a band by the instrumentalists, before you\u2019d even hear the vocalist.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cShelved First Attempt\u201d comprises tracks that remained tucked away for more than 30 years before Folds decided to resurface them from his personal archives. The recordings feature earlier versions of tracks such as \u201cUnderground,\u201d \u201cJulianne\u201d and \u201cPhilosophy,\u201d as well as \u201cBoxing\u201d and \u201cEvaporated,\u201d which appeared on the band\u2019s 1997 album Whatever and Ever Amen. Other tracks within the collection include \u201cEmaline,\u201d \u201cDick Holster\u201d and \u201cEddie Walker.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tReleased in 1997, Whatever and Ever Amen<\/em>\u2019s release was the commercial breakthrough for Ben Folds Five, peaking at No. 42 on the Billboard 200 chart. \u201cBrick,\u201d one of the songs from the album, peaked at No. 6 on the Alternative Airplay chart, No. 11 on the Mainstream Top 40 and reached No. 19 on the mainstream Hot 100 Airplay chart.<\/p>\n

Ben Folds Five (30th Anniversary)<\/em> will be released via Capitol\/UMe on CD and vinyl, while the remaster of the original album as well as the Shelved First Attempt<\/em> will both be available to stream and download.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs the project\u2019s reissue becomes available, the group is set to reunite for their first live performances together in more than 13 years next year.<\/p>\n
