I noticed them up in New York at one point,\u201d he told the outlet. \u201cNow, there has been Fugazis throughout time\u2026 and ultimately it was an acronym that meant \u2018Fucked up, got ambushed, zipped in.\u2019 It was a Vietnam War era acronym.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, I mean, it\u2019s been around. I don\u2019t begrudge anybody using it,\u201d he added, before explaining how he was more upset by the seemingly \u201cvindictive\u201d nature of the campaign against the band.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fucking way that the guy held up the \u2018Fugazi\u2019 registered trademark, the guy from Vans, and the way that he was like, \u2018Ha ha, we\u2019ve got it\u2019. I couldn\u2019t figure out why he was acting vindictively against us,\u201d the drummer continued. \u201cIt seemed like it was targeted towards us, and [we] kind of fucking felt like a corporate fucking mule.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course the Vans guys know who Fugazi is. It\u2019s mystifying, and it just seems stupid for them to do something [like that]. I was hurt by it, honestly. I was like, \u2018Why is Vans doing this?\u2019 I thought they were kind of like on the side of the angels, you know? Fugazi went on an \u201cindefinite hiatus\u201d following the end of their 2002 UK tour, following three sold-out shows at London\u2019s O2 Forum in Kentish Town.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, Canty opened up about the potential of a reunion, revealing that there is \u201calways a lingering chance\u201d of the band coming back together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt becomes less and less likely, but there were times throughout the last 22 years that we have gotten together and played for sometimes a week at a time, and we always see each other in town, and we\u2019re always working on other reissue projects,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, we\u2019re just in each other\u2019s lives a lot so, you know, it\u2019s not up to me whether we get the band back together. td-fix-index\">\n<p>Drummer Brendan Canty has called out the \u2018Vans and Fugazi\u2018 collaboration as \u201ctone deaf\u201d, and the footwear company has issued an apology for misleading the Fugazi\u201d collaboration of trainers, which was a partnership between Vans and a luxury streetwear brand based in Los Angeles \u2013 not the post-hardcore band.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad0 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>At first, it wasn\u2019t clear to some fans that it wasn\u2019t a partnership with the notoriously anti-consumerist group \u2013 leading to some being misled into thinking it was a collaboration with the band.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImagine thinking you landed a Fugazi collab only to discover it\u2019s a completely different Fugazi,\u201d one person wrote on X\/Twitter, while another added: \u201cI got really excited for a second\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI knew it was too good to be true since they never released merch to start with,\u201d someone added on Instagram, and another person wrote: \u201cLittle too late. I noticed them up in New York at one point,\u201d he told the outlet. \u201cNow, there has been Fugazis throughout time\u2026 and ultimately it was an acronym that meant \u2018Fucked up, got ambushed, zipped in.\u2019 It was a Vietnam War era acronym.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, I mean, it\u2019s been around. I don\u2019t begrudge anybody using it,\u201d he added, before explaining how he was more upset by the seemingly \u201cvindictive\u201d nature of the campaign against the band.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fucking way that the guy held up the \u2018Fugazi\u2019 registered trademark, the guy from Vans, and the way that he was like, \u2018Ha ha, we\u2019ve got it\u2019. I couldn\u2019t figure out why he was acting vindictively against us,\u201d the drummer continued. \u201cIt seemed like it was targeted towards us, and [we] kind of fucking felt like a corporate fucking mule.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course the Vans guys know who Fugazi is. It\u2019s mystifying, and it just seems stupid for them to do something [like that]. I was hurt by it, honestly. I was like, \u2018Why is Vans doing this?\u2019 I thought they were kind of like on the side of the angels, you know? Fugazi went on an \u201cindefinite hiatus\u201d following the end of their 2002 UK tour, following three sold-out shows at London\u2019s O2 Forum in Kentish Town.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, Canty opened up about the potential of a reunion, revealing that there is \u201calways a lingering chance\u201d of the band coming back together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt becomes less and less likely, but there were times throughout the last 22 years that we have gotten together and played for sometimes a week at a time, and we always see each other in town, and we\u2019re always working on other reissue projects,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, we\u2019re just in each other\u2019s lives a lot so, you know, it\u2019s not up to me whether we get the band back together.
