AI-generated \u201cactress\u201d Tilly Norwood, is officially developing its first AI feature film \u2013 starring, of course, Norwood.For those of you who haven\u2019t heard of Tilly Norwood, she was created last year and dubbed\u00a0the first AI \u201cactor\u201d\u00a0by Particle6 and AI \u201ctalent\u201d studio Xicoia CEO Eline van der Velden. \u00a0Norwood came under fire from Hollywood, with actors&#8217; union SAG-AFTRA issuing the following statement last year:\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s a character generated by a computer program that was trained on the work of countless professional performers &#8211; without permission or compensation.\u201d\u00a0They added: \u201cIt has no life experience to draw from, no emotion and, from what we\u2019ve seen, audiences aren\u2019t interested in watching computer-generated content untethered from the human experience. It doesn\u2019t solve any \u201cproblem\u201d &#8211; it creates the problem of using stolen performances to put actors out of work, jeopardizing performer livelihoods and devaluing human artistry.\u201d\u00a0In March, Norwood also made her music video debut as part of the Tillyverse, with Euronews Culture describing her song \u2018Take The Lead\u2019 as \u201caudio poison\u201d, adding that the track has a lyrical \u201cpetulance to it, progressively revealing itself as an insipid but alarming piece of AI propaganda.\u201dNow, we have Misaligned\u00a0to look forward to&#8230;Billed as a \u201ccoming-of-age story infused with existential AI chaos,\u201d according to a news release from Particle6, the film will see Norwood play an AI being who is encouraged by a\u00a0\u201cseductive rogue bot from the dark web\u201d\u00a0to start developing \u201cdesires, impulses and ambitions of her own.\u201d\u00a0\u201cThe more terrifyingly human she becomes, the more famous she gets, and, significantly, Tilly begins to develop shame that her very being has been built on the whole of humanity,\u201d states the synopsis. \u00a0\u201cThe film will absolutely be funny, chaotic and self-aware &#8211; very Tilly,\u201d Eline van der Velden said in the press release. \u201cBut underneath it, there\u2019s something deeper about identity, performance and our very human fears around AI. And yes, art will most definitely be imitating life.\u201d\u00a0In addition to the AI \u201cperformer,\u201d Misaligned will feature a hybrid production team of real-life writers, editors and directors, whom Particle6\u00a0 has \u201cretrained and upskilled\u201d.\u201cOur work this year has proven something we suspected all along,\u201d van der Velden explained. \u201cAI can support premium narrative filmmaking, but only with substantial amounts of human craft, skill, judgement and time. That\u2019s not a limitation of the technology. That\u2019s the point.&#8221;She added: &#8220;The filmmakers who thrive in the next decade will be the ones who bring decades of storytelling instinct to these new tools, and \u2018Misaligned\u2019 is where we put that to work at feature scale.\u201d\u00a0No release date for Misaligned has been announced.
