In January, they released their fourth single \u201cWork\u201d, which lit the internet ablaze and quickly garnered over 10 million views, a result of its hardcore choreography and brain-scratching bassline.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Comprising members Esther, Baila, Christy and Shaz, the band released their debut single in May 2025, but it was \u201cWork\u201d that introduced them to a global audience. \u201cHonestly, everything has changed,\u201d says Esther. \u201cWe always believed in the song because it feels fresh and different from what\u2019s out there, but we didn\u2019t expect it to grow that fast,\u201d adds Baila.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Three quarters of the group \u2013 Baila, Shaz and Christy \u2013 all met in 2022 while backstage at Head in the Clouds, an LA festival organised by US record label 88rising. Now based in LA, they stick to a strict daily training schedule. \u201cIt usually includes dance rehearsals, vocal training, and workouts to build stamina,\u201d says Christy. \u201cIt\u2019s a mix of everything because we want to be strong performers in all aspects, not just one.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Their inspirations include Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Christina Aguilera, but Destiny\u2019s Child is their true GOAT. \u201cThey really set the foundation for what a powerful girl group looks like,\u201d says Christy. \u201cTheir presence, their harmonies, their confidence.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Beyond the thumping pop music and acrobatic choreo, no na carry a greater purpose \u2013 \u201cto put Indonesia on the global map through our music.\u201d They purposefully incorporate elements of Indonesian culture in everything they do. In the \u201cWork\u201d music video, for example, Christy is seen playing the ceng-ceng, a Balinese percussion instrument, while wearing traditional jewellery and batik patterns. Meanwhile, in the video for \u201cFalling in Love\u201d, they used movements inspired by Balinese dance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Even their name comes from \u201cnona\u201d, the Indonesian word for \u201cmiss\u201d or \u201cyoung lady\u201d \u2013 though it took them a while to settle on it. \u201cOne of the name options was \u2018Nesia\u2019, which comes from Indonesia and means \u2018island\u2019. We liked it, but it didn\u2019t fully capture who we are as a group,\u201d says Baila. \u201c\u2018no na\u2019 just felt right,\u201d says Esther. \u201cIt represents us better. It feels feminine, strong, and connected to our identity. It\u2019s simple but it carries a lot of meaning for us.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As a genre, they feel that \u201cisland pop\u201d perfectly captures their essence. \u201cIt\u2019s not just about sound, but also identity \u2013 being island girls, being connected to where we come from, and bringing that into everything we make,\u201d says Esther. Now based in LA, they stick to a strict daily training schedule. \u201cIt usually includes dance rehearsals, vocal training, and workouts to build stamina,\u201d says Christy. \u201cIt\u2019s a mix of everything because we want to be strong performers in all aspects, not just one.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Their inspirations include Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Christina Aguilera, but Destiny\u2019s Child is their true GOAT. \u201cThey really set the foundation for what a powerful girl group looks like,\u201d says Christy. \u201cTheir presence, their harmonies, their confidence.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Beyond the thumping pop music and acrobatic choreo, no na carry a greater purpose \u2013 \u201cto put Indonesia on the global map through our music.\u201d They purposefully incorporate elements of Indonesian culture in everything they do. In the \u201cWork\u201d music video, for example, Christy is seen playing the ceng-ceng, a Balinese percussion instrument, while wearing traditional jewellery and batik patterns. Meanwhile, in the video for \u201cFalling in Love\u201d, they used movements inspired by Balinese dance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Even their name comes from \u201cnona\u201d, the Indonesian word for \u201cmiss\u201d or \u201cyoung lady\u201d \u2013 though it took them a while to settle on it. \u201cOne of the name options was \u2018Nesia\u2019, which comes from Indonesia and means \u2018island\u2019. We liked it, but it didn\u2019t fully capture who we are as a group,\u201d says Baila. \u201c\u2018no na\u2019 just felt right,\u201d says Esther. \u201cIt represents us better. It feels feminine, strong, and connected to our identity. It\u2019s simple but it carries a lot of meaning for us.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As a genre, they feel that \u201cisland pop\u201d perfectly captures their essence. \u201cIt\u2019s not just about sound, but also identity \u2013 being island girls, being connected to where we come from, and bringing that into everything we make,\u201d says Esther.
