Chanel has said the acquisition is intended to safeguard Charvet’s exceptional savoir-faire and ensure the long-term future of one of France’s most celebrated heritage maisons, while preserving its creative independence. The announcement follows a creative collaboration between the two houses, with Matthieu Blazy partnering with Charvet on shirts for his Chanel debut collection, reportedly, the €3,900 shirt sold out almost immediately (remember the queues in Bond Street?).

The acquisition is the latest example of luxury’s ongoing consolidation, as major fashion houses continue to absorb smaller heritage brands and specialist ateliers in the name of preserving artisanal expertise. Investments like Chanel’s can provide the financial stability needed for independent makers to survive in an increasingly challenging luxury market. But, they reinforce an industry where fewer truly independent names remain, raising questions about whether the future of craftsmanship can exist outside the orbit of global luxury powerhouses. It’s a paradox that continues to define modern fashion: protecting heritage, while placing more of it under the same corporate umbrella.

More news this week…

Geordie Campbell’s tee is worth talking about

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="960" height="1200" src="https://media.wonderlandmagazine.com/uploads/2026/07/image-10-960x1200.png" alt="Chanel’s newest buy?
