Shimano and Enve look to have unreleased wheelsets at the Tour de France, as we spotted the two new offerings on the UAE Team Emirates and Alpecin-Primer Tech at the start of stage two.<\/p>\n

The Tour de France began its drop bar program on stage two, with the peloton rolling from a hot and humid Tarragona, Spain. While the day finished with a hilly circuit through the streets of Barcelona, it began with a long flat preamble along the Mediterranean, which meant for some riders it was time for deep rims. For the UAE, this meant the debut of what looks like a new SES 6.7 PRO wheelset.<\/p>\n

The new goods from Enve build on the existing SES 4.5, 100, and DISC lineup, with the 100 and DISC time trial wheels debuting yesterday at the team time trial. The 6.7 PRO was likely delayed to allow Enve to reconfigure the rim profile to ensure the wheels were in accordance with the new UCI rule that mandates road racing rims have less than 65mm depth. The non-PRO 6.7 spec had a 67mm deep rear rim profile.<\/p>\n

The new Shimano wheelset was far less obvious, but it looks as if the brand is set to launch a new product as Alpecin-Premier Tech. The team is one of Shimano\u2019s big partners and is one of the few that have consistently ridden Shimano wheels in road races. We did spot what looked like a Scope wheel with the logos covered in the time trial, but for the team\u2019s road bikes, what we saw did not have the same scaled texture. Instead, it looked like a more conventional carbon wheel that could be what is coming down the pike from the team\u2019s stated wheel partner.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, at the moment, we do not have much information on either wheelset, but we did get a close look at the wheels on the team cars ahead of the stage to parse through some of the details.<\/p>\n
