Rightfully so, the basketball conversation in Philadelphia centers on the 76ers, Mike Gansey, Jameer Nelson, the rest of the Sixers\u2019 front office and their ability to seemingly pull a miracle out of this offseason.<\/p>\n

That Philly has at least put itself into the conversation with the biggest free agent of the summer \u2014 LeBron James<\/a> \u2014 is a testament to the work Gansey has done. The stunning trade for Jaylen Brown<\/a> speaks for itself. But Gansey and Nelson have also put together a series of smart and calculated moves that have transformed the 76ers\u2019 roster.<\/p>\n

Philadelphia lacked defensive depth on the wings, and Gansey went out and signed Dean Wade, one of the better wing defenders in the NBA. The Sixers lacked scoring off the bench last season, and Gansey went out and signed Anfernee Simons, one of the best scoring guards off the bench in the league. The Sixers lacked hope and buy-in from their fanbase. Trading for Brown not only gives them another all-NBA-level player to go with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, but there is also now a buzz around the city, where last year at this time, there was only apathy.<\/p>\n

Common sense says that acquiring James with the 76ers\u2019 open roster spot seems like a long shot. There is the lure of heading to the Golden State Warriors and playing with Stephen Curry. There is the lure of returning to Cleveland for one last ride with his hometown team. And, there is the lure of the Miami Heat, who just traded for Giannis Antetokounmpo<\/a>.<\/p>\n
