That\u2019s a record amount of yearly funding. Specifically, the $323.8 million will go to the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA), representing a seven percent increase over last year\u2019s $299.6 million and more than $100 million more than the City Council initially proposed. In a statement, Mamdani said the budget was part of his mission to make life more affordable for New York artists. \u201cA crushing affordability crisis has threatened to drive out the very artists who have long defined life in this city,\u201d he said. The budget also established a $10 million \u201cCultural Stability Fund\u201d to support struggling cultural organizations.<\/p>\n KAST ASIDE<\/strong>. A retrospective dedicated to the late Argentine artist\u00a0Le\u00f3n Ferrari was canceled\u00a0<\/strong>at the\u00a0Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (MNBA)<\/strong>\u00a0in Santiago due to budget cuts by Chile\u2019s newly installed far-right government led by\u00a0Jos\u00e9 Antonio Kast<\/strong>,\u00a0reports\u00a0The\u00a0Art Newspaper<\/em>. The major exhibition was scheduled to open in June, after three years of prep, conceived as an adaptation of the 2023 exhibit\u00a0Recurrencias<\/em>\u00a0in Buenos Aires. However, lack of funding amid budget cuts to the arts, spearheaded by Antonio Kast\u2019s government, has brought the project to a screeching halt. The government told\u00a0Andr\u00e9s Duprat<\/strong>, a curator organizing the exhibit and the director of the\u00a0Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Argentina<\/strong>, that \u201cunfortunately, they could not afford to put on the exhibition.\u201d He added that \u201cit is a great shame. Everything was already in place: the list of works, the transport and insurance budgets, and the exhibition layout.\u201d Chile\u2019s Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage budget was slashed by nearly 10 percent by the new government.
