The historic Sunrise Base Lodge and Mountain have been listed for sale. <\/strong>After its opening in the 1982-83 season, the Sunrise Base Lodge was an initial step in Killington\u2019s southern expansion plan. The development of the Sunrise area, also known as the Northeast Passage, was part of a long-term addition plan called Parker\u2019s Gore. The area featured a single fixed grip chair that took skiers on a lengthy ride to the top. This slow-moving triple and its surrounding terrain were the first step of a plan that never fully materialized. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Today\u2019s Sunrise Village at Killington is just a small piece leftover from the initial expansion plan.<\/strong> The Northeast Passage and Sunrise Base Lodge paved the way for southern expansion at Killington. It opened up access to a variety of terrain on the south side of the resort. However, this low-elevation terrain was much more susceptible to poor snow quality.<\/p>\n

After a variety of challenges, including poor snow conditions at low elevations and terrain limitations, continuing the expansion became too difficult.<\/strong> Instead of continuing with Parker\u2019s Gore expansion, Killington shifted its focus to a new proposal. In the late 1990s, under new ownership, Killington acquired Pico. \u00a0As a result, the resort scaled back progress on Sunrise and the Parker\u2019s Gore expansion plan to prioritize interconnecting the newly acquired Pico. The property has since been sold and was home to Snowmobile Vermont and ATV Tours. After years of ATV and snowmobile tours, the property is again up for sale, and its future lies in the hands of potential buyers.<\/span><\/p>\n
