Modern Warfare 4<\/a> &#8211; releasing on 23rd October &#8211; will be massive, too. Regardless, Xbox and Activision are planning ahead in an attempt to avoid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/call-of-duty-black-ops-7-european-sales-are-63-down-on-battlefield-6-and-50-down-on-black-ops-6\">Black Ops 7&#8217;s stumbles<\/a>, and it seems the publisher and platform holder are putting effort into telling the casual crowd this year&#8217;s CoD release won&#8217;t be on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/xbox-game-pass-games-list-this-month-price-6400\">Game Pass<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At least that&#8217;s the idea we&#8217;re getting from a targeted ad <a href=\"https:\/\/www.resetera.com\/threads\/when-you-know-your-communication-is-messy-official-call-of-duty-facebook-ad-states-not-on-xbox-game-pass-this-year.1563778\/\">spotted by a ResetEra user<\/a> who claimed to come across it while browsing Facebook. Though the math apparently worked out when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/games\/call-of-duty-2024\">Black Ops 6<\/a> &#8211; the first CoD released under the Xbox umbrella &#8211; launched in 2024 and dominated both the subscription service and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/call-of-duty-black-ops-6-the-top-selling-game-on-xbox-and-playstation-last-quarter\">premium sales<\/a>, that&#8217;s ending now as Xbox seeks to make more money the old-fashioned way.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"injection_placeholder\" data-position=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>But of course, a large chunk of Modern Warfare 4&#8217;s potential buyers aren&#8217;t as chronically online and informed as us, so the appearance of such ads on Facebook and other social platforms is a logical move. Still, it&#8217;s shocking to see Xbox officially embrace a &#8220;not on Game Pass&#8221; messaging after years of pushing exactly the opposite. It&#8217;s yet another sign things are radically changing at the heart of Microsoft&#8217;s gaming efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Though Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4&#8217;s core multiplayer experience has yet to be fully unveiled, we know an expanded and more immersive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-4-dmz-extraction-mode-xbox-games-showcase\">DMZ extraction mode<\/a> has a large presence. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-4-campaign-early-access\">Campaign early access is also returning<\/a> for those who pre-order digital copies on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X\/S, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/platforms\/switch-2\">Nintendo Switch 2<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"preferred-source\" data-component=\"preferred-source\">\nLove Eurogamer.net?
