CREDIT: Hugh R Hastings\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"vc_row_inner tdi_83 article-content-row vc_row vc_inner wpb_row td-pb-row\">\n<div class=\"vc_column_inner tdi_85  wpb_column vc_column_container tdc-inner-column td-pb-span12\">\n<div class=\"vc_column-inner\">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"td_block_wrap tdb_single_content tdi_86 td-pb-border-top td_block_template_2 td-post-content tagdiv-type\" data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_86\">\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\">\n<p>Boardmasters have vowed to \u201cbe better neighbours\u201d to visitors and local residents following a series of fall-outs and shortcomings in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>Director Rob Spring spoke to <em>BBC Radio Cornwall<\/em> about the controversy that surrounded the 2024 and 2025 editions of the festival, and pledged to make the live event safer and more pleasant going forward.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad0 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The concerns arose as the 2024 edition saw numerous concertgoers speak out about a crowd surge after the event, in which seven attendees were hospitalised and others needed treatment from on-site medical staff.<\/p>\n<p>That year also saw 11 people arrested at the festival site\u00a0with charges relating to drug offences, sexual offences and assault. Festival organisers addressed the incidents and reassured people that they would be implementing new and improved safety measures for the 2025 edition.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Boardmasters rebuilds trust. The Festival boss says being a better neighbour is \u201ccritical\u201d  after past disruption concerns \ud83c\udf0a\ud83c\udfb6 pic.twitter.com\/msuIJSZKvY<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 BBC Cornwall (@BBCCornwall) June 26, 2026<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>New changes included 24\/7 security coverage across campsites, more high-vis patrols, 24-hour support, and various medical points that were staffed by A&amp;E doctors, nurses, and paramedics.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about how he is determined to reassure people that \u201cBoardmasters is safe\u201d ahead of the 2026 instalment, Spring told <em>BBC Radio Cornwall<\/em> that he felt \u201csaddened for anyone that was injured\u201d at the 2024 event, and added that an independent report had been commissioned to get to the root of the issue.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad1 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h5 class=\"taboola-mid-article-title\">Recommended<\/h5>\n<div id=\"taboola-mid-article\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>He then added that the findings from that report led to the enhanced safety measures being implemented in 2025 and, as a result, organisers were \u201ccommended on the safety of that event\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Other issues surrounding the 2024 edition included severe traffic buildup in the local area, and Spring told the outlet that the issues then were \u201cnot acceptable\u201d and unlikely to happen again thanks to new protocols.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2024, we brought the roads to a standstill. That is not acceptable,\u201d he said. \u201cWe tore up our traffic management plan [after that], brought in locals and brought in the best specialists that we could find.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The changes, he claimed, mean that the roads during the 2025 instalment \u201cwere as quiet as an out-of-season day\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Traffic chaos, safety fears, and a big reset  \ud83d\udc40<\/p>\n<p>Boardmasters boss says being a \u201cbetter neighbour\u201d is vital for the festival\u2019s future after past problems in Newquay \ud83c\udfb6\ud83c\udf0a<\/p>\n<p>Read more: https:\/\/t.co\/qGtKCCZjim pic.twitter.com\/7OOEaUd7p2<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 BBC Cornwall (@BBCCornwall) June 25, 2026<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad2 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-2\" class=\"lazy-ad\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>While changes were implemented to reduce traffic congestion and increase the safety of punters, Boardmasters 2025 also drew some backlash after some social media users claimed that they had been victim to or witnessed spiking incidents on site.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement addressing the claims, festival organisers shared that there had been a total of 14 reported spiking cases in 2025 \u2013 down from 55 in 2024 \u2013 and said that all individuals tested on site had returned a negative result for substances associated with spiking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile one incident is always one too many, this reduction shows that the work we do, alongside our partners, is making a real difference,\u201d said CEO Andrew Topham at the time. \u201cWe remain committed to creating a space where everyone, of all ages, can enjoy the festival safely and respectfully, and doing everything we can to prevent harm whilst supporting those affected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s Boardmasters saw headline performances from Central Cee, RAYE and The Prodigy, and other names on the bill included The Wombats, Wet Leg, Franz Ferdinand and Bob Vylan.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3870391\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3870391\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3870391\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/NMEAR_NME-AWARDS-2022-BOB-VYLAN-WINNERS-ROOM-PORTRAIT-5-CREDIT-ZOE-MCCONNELL@2000x1270.jpg\" alt=\"Bob Vylan at the BandLab NME Awards 2022, photo by Zoe McConnell\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1270\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3870391\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bob Vylan at the BandLab NME Awards 2022. td-fix-index\">\n<p>Boardmasters have vowed to \u201cbe better neighbours\u201d to visitors and local residents following a series of fall-outs and shortcomings in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>Director Rob Spring spoke to <em>BBC Radio Cornwall<\/em> about the controversy that surrounded the 2024 and 2025 editions of the festival, and pledged to make the live event safer and more pleasant going forward.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad0 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-article-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The concerns arose as the 2024 edition saw numerous concertgoers speak out about a crowd surge after the event, in which seven attendees were hospitalised and others needed treatment from on-site medical staff.<\/p>\n<p>That year also saw 11 people arrested at the festival site\u00a0with charges relating to drug offences, sexual offences and assault. Festival organisers addressed the incidents and reassured people that they would be implementing new and improved safety measures for the 2025 edition.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Boardmasters rebuilds trust. The Festival boss says being a better neighbour is \u201ccritical\u201d  after past disruption concerns \ud83c\udf0a\ud83c\udfb6 pic.twitter.com\/msuIJSZKvY<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 BBC Cornwall (@BBCCornwall) June 26, 2026<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>New changes included 24\/7 security coverage across campsites, more high-vis patrols, 24-hour support, and various medical points that were staffed by A&amp;E doctors, nurses, and paramedics.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about how he is determined to reassure people that \u201cBoardmasters is safe\u201d ahead of the 2026 instalment, Spring told <em>BBC Radio Cornwall<\/em> that he felt \u201csaddened for anyone that was injured\u201d at the 2024 event, and added that an independent report had been commissioned to get to the root of the issue.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-ad id_inline_ad1 id_ad_content-horiz-center\"><span class=\"td-adspot-title\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h5 class=\"taboola-mid-article-title\">Recommended<\/h5>\n<div id=\"taboola-mid-article\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>He then added that the findings from that report led to the enhanced safety measures being implemented in 2025 and, as a result, organisers were \u201ccommended on the safety of that event\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Other issues surrounding the 2024 edition included severe traffic buildup in the local area, and Spring told the outlet that the issues then were \u201cnot acceptable\u201d and unlikely to happen again thanks to new protocols.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2024, we brought the roads to a standstill.
