\n\tMrs. GREEN APPLE\u2019s Motoki Ohmori (Vo.\/Gt.), Hiloto Wakai (Gt.), and Ryoka Fujisawa (Key.) took the stage in elaborately conceived looks each night. With the \u201cHero\u2019s Journey\u201d as their fashion theme, Day 1 drew inspiration from The Wizard of Oz and Day 2 from the Japanese folktale Momotaro. In his opening remarks, Ohmori articulated the event\u2019s essence: \u201cThis isn\u2019t a festival, or a joint show, or an awards ceremony. We\u2019ll simply encounter each other\u2019s cultures and enjoy sound, without competition or rivalry. That\u2019s what I want to offer again, together with everyone in this room.\u201d Those words became the guiding concept for both evenings.<\/p>\n

\n\ts**t kingz delivered the world premiere of \u201cslow burn,\u201d released that very day. asmi, appearing three years after her collaboration with MGA on \u201cBlue Ambience,\u201d expressed her gratitude before delivering a confessional performance of new track \u201cTokyo Tower.\u201d Cho Tokimeki Sendenbu ignited the arena with an ebullient, frills-and-cuteness performance, and a moment during \u201cchosaikyo\u201d drew wide smiles all around as the group surrounded the three MGA members. ORANGE RANGE threw the venue into full summer mode with \u201cShanghai Honey\u201d and \u201cIkenai Taiyou,\u201d with the other artists waving along in the frenzy.<\/p>\n

\n\tAI\u2019s set was nothing short of breathtaking. During an acoustic rendition of \u201cHappiness,\u201d the house lights came up and the entire arena transformed into one enormous choir. \u201cI cried,\u201d said Fujisawa after the set. \u201cAI\u2019s voice is so powerful, and yet her warmth and gentleness come through so clearly.\u201d TOMORROW X TOGETHER followed with \u201cStick With You\u201d and \u201cI\u2019ll See You There Tomorrow\u201d before performing \u201cForce,\u201d a song penned by Ohmori. The crowd erupted when the five members descended from the stage and walked through the artists\u2019 lounge section, culminating in a face-to-face moment between them and Ohmori at the front of the stage.<\/p>\n

\n\tAmong the VIP attendees were top Japanese athletes including table tennis national team member Tomokazu Harimoto, swimmer Yui Ohashi, and skateboarder Coco Yoshizawa. \u201cMusic gives me energy and courage,\u201d said Harimoto. \u201cBefore an important match, I always listen to Mrs. GREEN APPLE\u2019s songs.\u201d It was a vivid reminder of just how powerfully music fuels even the world of competitive sport.<\/p>\n

\n\tDay 2 opened with Mone Kamishiraishi, who quietly began her set a cappella with \u201cNandemonaiya,\u201d the theme from the animated film Your Name. For her rendition of \u201cMemento Mori,\u201d Ohmori\u2019s solo release that was later adapted into a picture book, the storybook world spread across the video screens as her light, tender voice enveloped the hall. Necry Talkie powered through \u201cHokujou no Susume\u201d and \u201cOshare Daisakusen\u201d on a thunderous band sound, before unveiling a new track \u201cYokeina Koto,\u201d showcasing a band fully hitting their stride. Singer-songwriter Ami Sakaguchi opened up about posting a MGA cover to social media in her second year of middle school, then delivered a stripped-back solo performance of \u201cHadaka.\u201d When FRUITS ZIPPER launched into \u201cWatashi no Ichiban Kawaiitokoro,\u201d Ohmori, watching from a round table, instinctively leaped to his feet and started dancing at the very first notes of the intro.<\/p>\n

\n\tMAXIMUM THE HORMONE sparked a headbanging storm with \u201cShimi,\u201d dramatically shifting the tone of two days of refined flavors into something like \u201cthick, rich, and extra-heavy\u201d ramen. Drummer Nao\u2019s line, \u201cThis is MGA\u2019s tasting session. Don\u2019t knock it before you try it,\u201d drew a wave of laughter, and the closing number \u201cKoi noMega Lover(CEREMONY edit)\u201d dragged the entire arena into a wall of thunderous sound. K-pop boy band TWS performed three songs including their Japanese debut single \u201cHajimemashite,\u201d delighting the crowd with fluid choreography and fresh vocals and building anticipation toward the finale.<\/p>\n

\n\tAyami Nakajo, who served as emcee during both days, delivered the closing address in the form of a letter. \u201cFor me, music is the grand orchestra of the movie called life. I\u2019m certain that music is always present at each person\u2019s ceremony, and that going forward, many different songs will continue to color our lives. Today, in this very moment, I encountered that greatest of orchestras.\u201d Her words resonated deeply throughout the venue.<\/p>\n

\n\tMrs. GREEN APPLE closed both nights. Sharing several songs across the two setlists \u2014 \u201cANTENNA,\u201d \u201cWind and Town,\u201d \u201cHeaven,\u201d \u201cGOOD DAY\u201d \u2014 the band seemed to absorb the accumulated energy of every artist who\u2019d performed that day, and their sets carried an almost uncanny intensity. The performance of \u201cHeaven\u201d on Day 2 in particular became a defining moment, as if Ohmori were channeling the passion of every act that had come before him.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTo create things, being creative, being someone who express things\u2026 it\u2019s a profoundly lonely endeavor,\u201d he reflected in his closing remarks on Day 2. \u201dIt\u2019s about how many times you doubt yourself and then believe in yourself again. But beyond logic and beyond irony, I felt in the deepest part of my heart that music really is the greatest thing there is. My heart was fuller than any victory could make it, and the frustration cut deeper than any defeat. That\u2019s the CEREMONY we made.\u201d For the finale, the three members of Mrs. GREEN APPLE stepped away from their microphones and called out in their own unamplified voices: \u201cSee you again at next year\u2019s CEREMONY!\u201d \u2014 and with that, two extraordinary evenings came to a close.<\/p>\n

\n\tNot a festival, not a joint show, not an awards ceremony \u2014 CEREMONY was a singular entertainment experience all its own. Its concept was realized to perfection across two days of purely shared joy in music.<\/p>\n
