\n\tIn 1985, Alan Jackson moved from Newnan, Georgia, to Music City in pursuit of his country music dream \u2014or, as he would call it in his 1990 hit, simply \u201cChasin\u2019 That Neon Rainbow.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tPart of the famed \u201cClass of \u201989,\u201d he released his debut album Here in the Real World<\/em> the following year, and in the nearly four decades that have followed, the tall, lanky singer-songwriter with the humble, down-home demeanor, towering songwriting skills, and an unerring devotion to classic country music has collected 26 Billboard No. 1 Country Airplay chart-toppers, two Grammy wins, and membership into not only the Country Music Hall of Fame (2017), but also the Songwriters Hall of Fame (2018) and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame (2011). He\u2019s also a three-time CMA entertainer of the year winner, taking home the accolade in 1995, 2002 and 2003. Beyond being a writer or co-writer on the bulk of his own hits, he\u2019s also known as a writer on songs recorded by Randy Travis, Faith Hill and Clay Walker.<\/p>\n\n\tJackson forged a career based on an accessible brand of vivid musical storytelling that etched small-town vignettes of life, love, loss and family. He\u2019s also built a Country Music Hall of Fame-worthy career by staying true to his traditional-leaning country roots, even as the genre\u2019s sound has continued to evolve and shift, making Jackson a country music standard-bearer to generations of country music artists and country music listeners.<\/p>\n
\n\tIn 2021, Jackson revealed his battle with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a degenerative nerve condition that impacts the peripheral nervous system and causes balance problems. He\u2019s spent much of the past year embarking on his final tour, culminating in his Saturday night celebration, which brought out numerous fellow country artists, entertainer of the year winners and a fellow Country Music Hall of Famer \u2014 all to pay their respects to Jackson\u2019s enduring career.<\/p>\n

\n\tThough an early rain drenched the audience during Owen\u2019s set, the crowd\u2019s enthusiasm wasn\u2019t dampened in the slightest.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cEveryone is a trooper for being out in this rain, supporting a legend like Alan Jackson,\u201d Pardi said during his performance. \u201cLet\u2019s stop talking and get to dancing,\u201d he said before singing \u201cShe\u2019s Got the Rhythm (And I Got the Blues).\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLittle Big Town lent their illustrious voices to Jackson\u2019s \u201cIt Must Be Love.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cWe are so happy to be here with y\u2019all rain or shine, whatever we get,\u201d said Little Big Town\u2019s Kimberly Schlapman. Of Jackson, she said, \u201cYou are part of our romances, our tailgates, our heartbreaks\u2026 you are forever woven into our lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tRiley Green performed Jackson\u2019s 1998 hit \u201cLittle Man,\u201d while Womack performed \u201cBetween the Devil and Me.\u201d Texan Lambert performed Jackson\u2019s hit \u201cDallas.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tReigning ACM entertainer of the year Cody Johnson performed \u201cJob Description,\u201d a song Jackson wrote solo and included on his 1994 album Who I Am<\/em>. Johnson recalled hearing this song as a kid and dreaming of living out the song\u2019s tales of being a star performing on the road, and then, as his own star grew, Johnson says he related to the hardships of being miles away from home.<\/p>\n\n\tLuke Bryan told the crowd how Jackson served as an inspiration as a Georgian who moved to Nashville dreaming of stardom and who transformed that dream a reality. Bryan performed the grooving \u201cLove\u2019s Got a Hold on You.\u201d Thomas Rhett performed \u201cSmall Town Southern Man,\u201d noting how the song aptly fits his life, as he is also the father of four girls and a boy.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cY\u2019all showed up to party with Mr. Alan Jackson!\u201d exclaimed Lainey Wilson, who performed \u201cTall, Tall Trees.\u201d The first concert Carrie Underwood ever attended as a child was an Alan Jackson concert; she honored Jackson Saturday evening with a rendition of \u201cEverything I Love.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

Near the middle of the show came \u201cPop a Top Again,\u201d with Bryan, Underwood, Church, Green, Womack, Wilson, and more gathered at center stage for a collective performance of Jackson\u2019s rendition of Jim Ed Brown\u2019s 1967 hit \u201cPop a Top.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cWe are all here tonight to celebrate a country music giant, Mr. Alan Jackson,\u201d Underwood said.<\/p>\n
\n\tOther artists including Taylor Swift, Reba McEntire, Randy Travis, Keith Urban and Zac Brown offered video tributes to Jackson throughout the show. Between sets, footage of various Jackson performances and awards show moments also filled the screens.<\/p>\n\n\n

\n\tNearly mid-way through the show, another downpour rolled through, along with a delay as fans were asked to take shelter under the covered corridors of the stadium. The show again got underway nearly an hour later.<\/p>\n
\n\tThat\u2019s when Jackson himself took the stage, eliciting thunderous applause from the crowd as he launched into his 1994 hit \u201cGone Country\u201d and from there kept performing hit after hit, showcasing both the commercial strength and artistic depth of his music.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cThese performances, all these nice things people\u2019ve said, it makes me want to tear up a little bit, I\u2019ll be honest with you,\u201d Jackson said.<\/p>\n\n\n

There was the comedic \u201cI Don\u2019t Even Know Your Name,\u201d the haunting ode to Hank Williams, Sr., with \u201cMidnight in Montgomery,\u201d the tender \u201cLivin\u2019 on Love\u201d and the somber \u201cThe Blues Man,\u201d as well as uptempo hits like \u201cSummertime Blues\u201d and \u201cWho\u2019s Cheatin\u2019 Who.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe recalled nearly giving up his dream when his first radio single failed on the radio charts, but then came his breakthrough hit \u201cHere in the Real World.\u201d He played that hit, and took fans on a musical journey through more hit songs and the events that inspired them, playing snippets of \u201cWanted,\u201d \u201cI\u2019d Love You All Over Again\u201d (which he wrote as a 10-year wedding anniversary gift to his wife, Denise) and \u201cChasin\u2019 That Neon Rainbow,\u201d recalling how his father\u2019s radio mentioned in that song was ultimately displayed in the Country Music Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n
\n\tHe paused at one point early on in his set to take in the love of the crowd, calling it \u201coverwhelming,\u201d but also noted that he was determined not to dwell on \u201cthat last show stuff\u2026 I\u2019m not dead!\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tThough Jackson is calling it quits for touring, he\u2019s still releasing music; in fact, he just released his rendition of \u201cStill the One,\u201d a cover of the band Orleans\u2019 1976 hit.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s hotter than a hoochie coochie up here,\u201d he said at one point, acknowledging the sweltering summer Tennessee heat, before praising his band The Strayhorns, including some members that have been with him for decades, since his days playing tiny clubs.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cIf anybody\u2019s living a really good dream\u2026 I\u2019m living it,\u201d Jackson said. \u201cI just want to thank everybody, especially all of you fans\u2026 y\u2019all have been so supportive of my music all of these years\u2026 y\u2019all always treated me nice and respected the music.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tThe crowd roared when he welcomed Strait to the stage for \u201cDesignated Drinker\u201d and \u201cMurder on Music Row.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tAfter the two traded cheers and sipped on celebratory beverages, Strait said, \u201cYou did this for me at the Cowboy Rides Away Tour, thank you,\u201d before adding, \u201cI just wanna say, this cowboy rode back in, so we got some hope for Alan\u2026 to ride back in.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMore hits followed, with Jackson performing \u201cLittle Bitty,\u201d \u201cCountry Boy\u201d and \u201cGood Time\u201d as fans held up signs emblazoned with the song\u2019s title. He sailed through \u201cDrive (For Daddy Gene)\u201d and ended with a message in loving memory of his dad, who passed away in 2000.<\/p>\n
\n\tHe also performed \u201cWhere Were You (When The World Stopped Turning),\u201d which Jackson wrote in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack. His performance of the song that Saturday night had the audience lighting up the stadium with cell phone lights. The song ended with American flag images flanking the stage on both massive screens, as some in the crowd began chanting \u201cU.S.A.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tFrom there, the party vibe resurged with \u201cDon\u2019t Rock the Jukebox,\u201d before Jackson segued back into ballad territory with \u201cRemember When,\u201d as personal photos and videos of his family flashed on the main screen behind him. The nostalgic, romantic tune drew one of the evening\u2019s biggest crowd responses.<\/p>\n
\n\tStill more hits followed, including \u201cIt\u2019s Five O\u2019Clock Somewhere\u201d (which he originally recorded with the late Jimmy Buffett), then his summer anthem \u201cChattahoochee,\u201d as fireworks zoomed off into the sky.<\/p>\n
\n\tJackson thanked the audience and exited the stage, though his departure was brief as the crowd\u2019s cheers quickly drew him back into the limelight. For his encore, he returned to the stage dressed in a vivid red button-down shirt with gold fringe on the sleeves. He offered \u201cMercury Blues\u201d and closed with \u201cWhere I Come From\u201d (affectionately known among many fans simply as \u201cCornbread and Chicken,\u201d in reference to one of the song\u2019s more famous lines) as yet more fireworks shot into the sky behind the stage.<\/p>\n

\n\tFitting with the soft-spoken, everyman persona he\u2019s been known for for decades, Jackson concluded the show by waving to the crowd as they roared their approval, and saying simply, \u201cThank you, we love you,\u201d before exiting the stage for the final time.<\/p>\n\n\n
