{"id":2014483,"date":"2026-06-26T19:16:53","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T16:16:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/analyse.optim.biz\/?p=2014483"},"modified":"2026-06-26T19:16:53","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T16:16:53","slug":"white-house-historical-associations-7-million-rockwells-go-on-view","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/analyse.optim.biz\/?p=2014483","title":{"rendered":"White House Historical Association&#8217;s $7 Million Rockwells Go on View"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[analyse_image type=&#8221;featured&#8221; src=&#8221;https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/9b312738653621.5769ec3172818.webp?w=1024&#8243;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"a-content a-content--offset lrv-a-floated-parent lrv-u-font-family-body lrv-u-line-height-normal lrv-u-font-size-18 lrv-u-position-relative\">\n<div class=\"pmc-paywall\">\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFour panels of an interconnected painting by Norman Rockwell have gone on public view for the first time at the headquarters for the White House Historical Association, a \u201cnon-profit, non-partisan organization\u201d a short walk from its namesake in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe work ran under the headline \u201cSo You Want to See the President!\u201d in the Saturday Evening Post after it had been commissioned by Franklin Delano Roosevelt\u2019s press secretary Stephen Early in 1943.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAs reported by <em>Artnet News<\/em>, \u201cAfter publication, Rockwell gave the paintings to Early, but following the press officer\u2019s untimely death in 1951, they went to his daughter and were later lent to the White House between 1978 and 2022, becoming an ever presence in the West Wing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLast year, three years after the loan had ceased, the painting changed hands by way of Heritage Auctions for $7.25 million in a \u201csale [that] followed a bitter ownership dispute and cast the painting as an emblem of both American democracy and litigiousness,\u201d as <em>Artnet <\/em>described it at the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn a statement related to the work going on view, Stewart McLaurin, president of the White House Historical Association, called <em>So You Want to See the President!<\/em> a \u201cportrait of American democracy itself.\u201d He added: \u201cWe are honored to share this defining piece of White House history with visitors from across the country and around the world, especially during America\u2019s Semiquincentennial.
