temperatures in a heatwave that is expected to last for a further two weeks across the continent.<br \/>\n    <\/h2>\n<div class=\"c-article-content c-article-content--health js-article-content\">\n<p>The heatwave hitting Spain has caused 327 deaths since last Sunday, 21 June, according to the Spanish Health Institute Carlos III. <\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"c-ad u-show-for-mobile-only\">\n<div class=\"c-ad__placeholder\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-ad__placeholder__logo\" src=\"https:\/\/static.euronews.com\/website\/images\/logos\/logo-euronews-stacked-outlined-72x72-grey-9.svg\" width=\"72\" height=\"72\" alt loading=\"lazy\"><span>ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"c-ad u-show-for-desktop\">\n<div class=\"c-ad__placeholder\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-ad__placeholder__logo\" heatwave. <\/p>\n<p>According to the Spanish national meteorological agency (AEMET), the heatwave came to an end on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Based on Spain&#8217;s national temperature records dating back to 1950, 23 June was the hottest June day on record, with 22 June ranking second. <\/p>\n<p>The worst anomalies were recorded in northern Spain, where Bilbao Airport set new records for both daytime highs and overnight minimum temperatures. <\/p>\n<p>Since Spain&#8217;s annual heat surveillance season began in mid-May, the Carlos III Institute has registered 611 deaths attributed to high temperatures.<\/p>\n<h2>Another two weeks of heatwave<\/h2>\n<p>The heatwave is expected to affect large parts of Western, Central and Southern Europe within the next two weeks, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). <\/p>\n<p>According to current forecasts, the focus of the heat is likely to shift further towards the Balkans, the UN agency said on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProlonged exposure over several days, particularly when temperatures remain high at night, means the body enters each new day already stressed,\u201d said Lachlan McIver, health adviser at the WHO-WMO Climate and Health Joint Office. <\/p>\n<p>Older adults, young children, pregnant women, outdoor workers and people living with chronic illness are more vulnerable to high temperatures, but \u201cheat stress can affect anyone when temperatures are extreme enough for long enough,\u201d McIver warned. <\/p>\n<div class=\"c-widget-related\" data-stories-id heatwave temperatures across Western Europe. <\/p>\n<p>France recorded its hottest day ever on Tuesday, 24 June, with the average temperature exceeding 30\u00b0C over 24 hours for the first time. and local records broken during the heatwave.\u00a0According to the Spanish national meteorological agency (AEMET), the heatwave came to an end on Thursday.Based on Spain&#8217;s national temperature records dating back to 1950, 23 June was the hottest June day on record, with 22 June ranking second.\u00a0The worst anomalies were recorded in northern Spain, where Bilbao Airport set new records for both daytime highs and overnight minimum temperatures.\u00a0Since Spain&#8217;s annual heat surveillance season began in mid-May, the Carlos III Institute has registered 611 deaths attributed to high temperatures.Another two weeks of heatwaveThe heatwave is expected to affect large parts of Western, Central and Southern Europe within the next two weeks, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).\u00a0\u00a0According to current forecasts, the focus of the heat is likely to shift further towards the Balkans, the UN agency said on Thursday.\u201cProlonged exposure over heatwave temperatures across Western Europe.\u00a0France recorded its hottest day ever on Tuesday, 24 June, with the average temperature exceeding 30\u00b0C over 24 hours for the first time. The country has also recorded 40 deaths from drowning in the past week as people seek relief in rivers and other bodies of water.\u00a0According to the WMO, temperatures rose up to 43.8 \u00b0C in the town of\u00a0 Palluau in western France.\u00a0\u00a0Belgium issued a heat alert from Wednesday as extreme temperatures are expected to intensify in the days ahead, according to the country&#8217;s Royal Meteorological Institute.\u00a0Germany&#8217;s national weather service issued widespread red alerts, including for Berlin, Bonn, Frankfurt and Cologne.
