\n\tKaty Perry is setting her past ablaze on new single \u201cWatch It Burn,\u201d which dropped Thursday night (June 25) alongside a cinematic new music video.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs previewed in teasers shared by the pop star leading up to its release, the visual finds her wreaking havoc as a monstrous scorpion-human hybrid. On the cathartic pop-rock banger \u2014 which Perry performed before its release at both O Son do Cami\u00f1o in Spain and Rock in Rio Lisboa \u2014 she sings about reclaiming her life by saying goodbye to a long-term relationship.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWatch It Burn\u201d marks Perry\u2019s first release since November single \u201cBandaids.\u201d Before that came 2024 album 143<\/em>, which reached No. 6 on the Billboard 200. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe new song\u2019s lyrics seemingly nod to the singer\u2019s breakup last year from fianc\u00e9 Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares daughter Daisy. While speaking with cowriter Justin Tranter on his Unfamous<\/em> podcast, Perry said, \u201cIn \u2018Watch It Burn,\u2019 I am wrestling with my darkness, but last year was pretty tough.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI have not given myself permission to be angry my whole life over things where I should be f\u2014king angry about,\u201d she continued. \u201cWhat I\u2019ve done is I pushed it down, but I should be f\u2014king angry. I\u2019m allowed to be angry for a f\u2014king moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPerry is now in a relationship with Justin Trudeau, whom she called \u201cthe love of my life\u201d during a Q&A at the premiere of her Lifetimes Tour concert film in New York earlier in June. \u201cI fly super high,\u201d she added at the time. \u201cSometimes I need to be anchored. To have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole.\u201d<\/p>\n
