The rule, which passed under the Biden administration, blocks the import and sale of any vehicle with software from \u201ccountries of concern,\u201d which includes China. Polestar is owned by Geely, one of the largest automakers in China.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">The rule covers everything that connects a vehicle to the outside world, such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular, and satellite components. It also addresses concerns that technology like cameras, sensors, and onboard computers could be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/2\/29\/24086490\/us-biden-administration-investigation-chinese-vehicles-security-threat\">exploited by foreign adversaries<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/7\/17\/24200480\/us-cars-limits-china-software-commerce\">collect sensitive data about US citizens and infrastructure<\/a>. The automaker, which sells its Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 electric vehicles in the US, had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2025\/1\/14\/24343497\/biden-china-vehicle-software-ban-polestar-waymo\">predicted back in January 2025<\/a> that it would have to pull out of the US if it went into effect. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/10\/12\/23398746\/polestar-3-electric-suv-ev-range-price-specs\">The Polestar 3<\/a> is made in the US, at the automaker\u2019s factory in South Carolina, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/transportation\/814717\/polestar-4-review-specs-price-rear-windshield\">the Polestar 4<\/a> is assembled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/678655\/polestar-4-2026-south-korea-manufacture-china\">in South Korea<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">The company says it will continue to sell its existing stock of vehicles to US customers, but will stop marketing and sales of its vehicles model year 2027 and onwards in the US.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">\u201cSupporting our customers remains our highest priority,\u201d spokesperson Michael Ofiara said in a statement. \u201cExisting Polestar owners and lease customers will continue to receive the same level of support and access to service as they do today. All existing warranties remain in effect and will continue to be honored in accordance with their terms and conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Polestar said that it would redouble its efforts in Europe, which already represents 80 percent of the company\u2019s sales.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">\u201cThe automotive industry is entering a new phase, based on regional dynamics,\u201d Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller said in a statement. \u201cOur strategy reflects that, with Europe being our largest growth engine and our plan to manufacture Polestar 7 in Europe. Our record sales in 2025 and the first quarter of 2026 show that we are making strong progress, with several new market launches taking place in Europe this year.
