The global mountaineering and steep skiing communities are mourning the loss of Guillaume \u201cGee\u201d Pierrel, who died following a devastating avalanche on K6 (7,282 m) in Pakistan\u2019s Karakoram Range\u00a0Wednesday morning, June 24. <\/span><\/span><\/strong>According to preliminary reports from local Hushe Valley authorities, the 40-year-old French mountain guide and extreme skier was caught by a sudden slide of snow and rock during an alpine ascent.<\/span> Pierrel was climbing alongside his frequent expedition partner, elite Canadian skier Christina Lustenberger, and fellow French guide Boris Langenstein, both of whom survived the incident.<\/span><\/p>\n
