The ski resort will also be hosting the Whiteface Mountain Races on the same day. The race boasts more vertical gain and loss per mile than possibly any other race in the United States, other than the Mt. Marathon in Alaska.

The Marshak Mountain Race course will use mountain utility roads, grassy and/or hummocky slopes, and a blend of ascents and descents at roughly 40 percent grade, covering roughly 3,900 feet of gain and loss over 6.2 miles (10 kilometers). For those athletes who really want a challenge, take a second lap, which will increase those totals to 7,800 feet of gain over 12.5 miles (20 kilometers). It is a tough and brutal mountain race that features great views of the Adirondack High Peaks, in the historic footsteps of Olympians who also pushed themselves on the same mountain.

For those who are looking to relax on this holiday weekend, the Olympic Center and the Lake Placid Olympic Museum will be open. Both have been recently upgraded and renovated over the past several years, and are a must-visit for anyone who enjoys learning about history and the Winter Olympics. There will be inline skating available on the Olympic Speed Skating Oval, which is located right next to the Olympic Center and Museum. Live music in Mid’s Park from 1 to 4 p.m. featuring the All Night Boogie Band, which is an award-winning blues, rock, and soul-inspired band. The Fourth of July Parade begins at 5 p.m. down the historic Main Street of Lake Placid with special appearances from local Olympians who will be in attendance.

The day will end with Lake Placid’s Set the Night to Music Fireworks Spectacular, which will light up the skies over Mirror Lake at 9:30 p.m.
