Anya Taylor-Joy knows a thing or two about being camera-ready. The right pose, the right smile, the perfect hair flick. But when it comes to getting there, she also has an army of experts within arm\u2019s reach \u2013 led by Dior Makeup Creative and Image Director Peter Philips. After years of collaboration, the The Queen\u2019s Gambit<\/em> star and the makeup mastermind have found their rhythm. Anya takes notes from Peter\u2019s creations to elevate her off-duty beauty routine, while Peter continues to enlist her as the face of his stellar campaigns.<\/p>\n

To celebrate the launch of Dior Beauty\u2019s latest release, the Dior Addict Glass Lipstick, the duo are back together once again. The French house\u2019s shiniest, most lacquered formula yet is set to be the product on everyone\u2019s lips \u2013 including Anya\u2019s. Ahead of the launch, she sits down with Wonderland to talk all things beauty, from her favourite tips and tricks to the lessons she\u2019s picked up from the industry\u2019s best. What do you love most about working with Dior?<\/strong>
The most beautiful thing about being in this Dior family is that we all really care about each other. We\u2019re always in these different parts of the world having these crazy experiences together. I really appreciate that. For this campaign, I was on set the day before shooting an action sequence until 6am. I got picked up at midday and then it was all sugar candy! It was so fun. I derive my energy from that variety. Having it be such a switch was incredible.<\/p>\n

Who first taught you how to use makeup?<\/strong>
As soon as I started working, makeup became something so attached to my job that I got inspired by the passion of the incredible professionals I was working with. Because I spend most of my days on set, makeup is something that I long did more as a form of going to work. It\u2019s only in the past couple of years, working with such incredible creatives like Peter Philips [creative and image director of Dior Makeup] and my own personal team that I started to get the bug for it. I now want to start to learn how to do it more for myself. It\u2019s really fun, and it is also art, and painting. I love watching Peter paint my face.<\/p>\n

\"Anya<\/figure>\n

Do you sometimes do your makeup yourself?<\/strong>
When it\u2019s for work, I definitely leave it to the professionals. And when it\u2019s just myself, I tend to basically wear mascara, maybe a little bit of concealer and a lip. My next goal is to figure out how to do eyeliner. I ask Peter Philips to explain it to me every time I see him, but I just have to find the time to practice.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the best makeup trick he has taught you?<\/strong>
Peter has a beautiful way of doing powder. He grabs two little cotton pads and does this really specific dance on your face. It does make a difference.<\/p>\n

How was it working alongside Jisoo and Willow Smith on the new Dior Addict Glass Lipstick campaign?<\/strong>
It\u2019s always a pleasure to be back on set together. After so many years working side by side, we\u2019ve become friends, and it\u2019s a real privilege to get to work with people you care about. I think that\u2019s also why the campaigns turn out so well\u2014we\u2019re genuinely happy on set, and the camera captures that exactly as it is.<\/p>\n

What look feels most like yourself?<\/strong>
If it is me-me, I am either completely bare faced \u2013 which I tend to be most of the time \u2013 or I would just put on some brown mascara, a lip liner, and a little bit of something on the lips. I\u2019ll add some gloss on it if I\u2019m feeling funky. Peter once sat down with me and picked out all of my different shades from Dior, which was so helpful.<\/p>\n

\"Anya<\/figure>\n

You\u2019re 30 and already have a fantastic career, full of great work and recognition. How do you measure success?<\/strong>
I find that one of the most beautiful things you can have in this life is a sense of purpose. Waking up every day and being turned on and excited by the thing you\u2019re doing and putting your life force into, that is success to me.<\/p>\n

What can we wish for you in the next decade to come?<\/strong>
I hope to continue on the path I\u2019m on now. I feel like I\u2019ve grown kinder to myself every year and I have more fun. Beauty is not only skin deep: when you\u2019re more at peace with yourself, your face really opens up. When I look at myself now compared to when I was 18, I look happier, I can see my confidence in my skin. My goal is to get to the sexiness of a 45-year-old woman as quickly as possible, because women in their 40s do everything for themselves and they are so hot. I\u2019m hoping to get that a little bit earlier.<\/p>\n
