Slate Auto’s first truck will cost $24,590, according to The Autopian<\/em><\/a>, <\/em>who discovered <\/em>the price of the incoming EV after it appeared to have been exposed in the code of the pre-order section of the automaker\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve been keeping an eye on the Slate Truck ever since we had a poke around one in April of last year at the reveal. In case you\u2019ve forgotten, Slate is a new Amazon-backed automaker set to build what was then meant to be a sub-$20k electric pickup. The world\u2019s become a different place since then, and the \u2018sub\u2019 part of that went bye-bye quick.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

We still expected the Slate Truck to be fairly inexpensive, but we didn\u2019t know just how much it will be until now, so long as this turns out to be accurate.<\/p>\n

How does an EV end up being this affordable anyway? Slate\u2019s whole deal is that the truck – with all of 201hp and up to 240 miles of range – is as bare-bones as it gets. If you want any amenities beyond air conditioning, it\u2019s an a la carte<\/em> purchase. Apart from keeping the price down, this allows buyers to configure the Slate Truck bit by bit into the vehicle they need, be it a two-row SUV or a pickup or anything in-between.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
