The <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 16px\" href=\"https:\/\/www.samnaun.ch\/en\/ski-arena\/news-projekte-skigebiet\">projects<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 16px\"> form part of a multi-year investment program that began last summer with the replacement of the H\u00f6llbodenbahn and Sassgalunbahn. Together with the new H\u00f6llkarbahn opening for 2026-27, the three-lift modernization project represents an investment of approximately \u20ac50 million ($57.5 million).<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Related:<\/strong> <em><a href=\"https:\/\/snowbrains.com\/samnaun-ischgl-new-gondola-construction-2027\/\"><strong>Major Lift Upgrade Underway at Ischgl-Samnaun at Swiss-Austrian Border<\/strong><\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>When the H\u00f6llkarbahn enters service, Ischgl-Samnaun will boast six detachable eight-passenger chairlifts spread across the ski area: H\u00f6llkarbahn, H\u00f6llbodenbahn, Sassgalunbahn, Visnitzbahn, Flimjochbahn, and Idjochbahn.<\/strong> Five of the six eight-packs feature heated seats, while all are equipped with weather-protection bubbles. In addition to those chairlifts, Ischgl-Samnaun boasts four circulating gondolas and three aerial tramways. One of those tramways will also see an exciting upgrade.<\/p>\n<p><strong>On the Swiss side, Bergbahnen Samnaun AG is upgrading the iconic Twinliner double-decker aerial tramway with new cabins.<\/strong> The distinctive two-level cabins carry up to 180 passengers and have been serving as the primary gateway from Samnaun into the Silvretta Arena since 1995. In addition to the new cabins, the modernization includes a new control system, upgraded platform doors, and infrastructure designed to support future autonomous operation. Sustainability has also been incorporated into the projects. Ischgl-Samnaun has one of the highest hourly lift capacities in the world, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ischgl.com\/en\/silvrettaseilbahnag\/winter\/slopes-facilities\">99,093 people<\/a> transported per hour. The new H\u00f6llkarbahn will boost capacity by another 1,000 people, taking the resort to 100,093 for the 2026-27 season.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Related: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/snowbrains.com\/top-13-ski-areas-with-the-highest-lift-capacity-in-the-world\/\"><em><strong>Top 13 Ski Areas with the Highest Lift Capacity in the World<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The new H\u00f6llkarbahn replaces a lift that first opened in 1998 and has transported approximately 33 million passengers during its lifetime.<\/strong> Together, the H\u00f6llkarbahn, H\u00f6llbodenbahn, and Sassgalunbahn have carried more than 83 million skiers and snowboarders since entering service, highlighting the importance of these lifts to the Silvretta Arena\u2019s operation. The upgrade will take the capacity from 3,200 pax to 4,200 pax \u2014 the same as the H\u00f6llbodenbahn and Sassgalunbahn. As part of the redevelopment, the upper station of the H\u00f6llbodenbahn has been relocated approximately 500 meters (1,640 feet) east of Idalp, reducing congestion and improving traffic flow between lifts and pistes.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Related: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/snowbrains.com\/ski-resorts-where-you-can-ski-or-board-in-2-countries-in-1-day\/\"><em><strong>Ski Resorts Where You can Ski or Board in 2 Countries in 1 Day<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The 2026-27 upgrades are only part of a much larger modernization program underway across the Silvretta Arena.<\/strong> Looking ahead, Samnaun and Ischgl are also planning a major replacement of the aging Flimjochbahn and Grivaleabahn connection, which will be consolidated into a new high-capacity gondola system scheduled for the 2027-28 season. The project will introduce innovative double-decker cabins capable of carrying significantly more passengers, further boosting the resort\u2019s hourly capacity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>These projects are another step in Ischgl-Samnaun\u2019s ongoing effort to maintain its position among the Alps\u2019 most technologically advanced ski destinations.<\/strong> Together, Silvrettaseilbahn AG and Bergbahnen Samnaun AG operate 46 lifts serving 239 kilometers (149 miles) of pistes across Austria and Switzerland, making the Silvretta Arena one of the largest interconnected ski areas in the Alps.
