The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut<\/a> has continued its noble, long-running quest to melt the world\u2019s supply of timing gear by setting new production car speed records. Again.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn Sweden\u2019s National Day,\u201d said Koenigsegg, \u201cthe Jesko Absolut delivered another historic performance at Koenigsegg\u2019s home airfield in Angelholm, Sweden.\u201d That historic performance relates to a standing quarter mile in 8.54s at 190mph, and the half mile in 12.76s at 232mph.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

That\u2019s a significant \u2013 within the realms of the whole \u2018melting timing gear\u2019 thing \u2013 improvement over the Koenigsegg Jesko\u2019s quarter and half mile times back in 2025<\/a>: 8.88s and 13.27s at 223.5mph, for reference.<\/p>\n

While \u201cboth top speeds are the fastest ever recorded for a production car\u201d, said Koenigsegg, that quarter mile time of 8.54s at 190mph is a particularly melty one. \u201cThis remarkable run also marks the first time in history that a production car has exceeded 300kmh over the quarter mile.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Koenigsegg points out the Jesko did it with \u201ca healthy margin, on an unprepped surface, on production tyres and with power going to the rear wheels only\u201d. Talk about rubbing it in.<\/p>\n

Though it\u2019s quite some feat, attempting to safely transmit 1,600bhp and 1,106lb ft of 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 to the rear wheels alone. Koenigsegg test driver Markus Lundh was the chap responsible for such the attempt.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe performance was made possible by new software advancements that will be rolled out via OTA update to the entire Absolut fleet,\u201d added Koenigsegg. Won\u2019t somebody think of the poor stopwatches?<\/p>\n
