Here\u2019s a round-up of who\u2019s moving and shaking in the art trade this week<\/p>\n Francesca Casadio Appointed Director of the Getty Conservation Institute:\u00a0<\/strong>The conservation scientist, who currently serves as vice president and Grainger Executive Director of Conservation and Science at the Art Institute of Chicago, will start at the GCI in early fall 2026.<\/p>\n Elif Saydam Wins Tiemann Prize for Contemporary Painting:\u00a0<\/strong>Six works from the Berlin-based artist\u2019s \u201cSp\u00e4ti Paintings\u201d series will enter the collection of theHamburger Bahnhof\u2014Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart through the 2026 prize, awarded by the Ingeborg and Dr. H. J\u00fcrgen Tiemann Foundation. The paintings will be included in a new collection presentation, \u201cA Thousand Times Berlin,\u201d opening June 12.<\/p>\n GRIMM Opens New Amsterdam Space and Launches Artist Residency in France:\u00a0<\/strong>In its 20th anniversary year, the gallery will open a new space in a 17th-century canal building on the Leidsegracht in September and launch an artist residency at the newly acquired Ch\u00e2teau Val Croissant in Provence.<\/p>\n Steven Nelson Named Inaugural Executive Director of Sam Gilliam Foundation:\u00a0<\/strong>The art historian and curator joins the Washington, D.C.\u2013based foundation from the National Gallery of Art, where he served as dean of the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts. He will oversee institutional partnerships, research, publications, and programs supporting artists and social advocacy.<\/p>\n \n\tThat\u2019s the\u00a0combined estimate\u00a0<\/strong>for two Claude Monet works set to hit the block at Sotheby\u2019s London later this month. Due to appear in the modern and contemporary evening sale on June 24, the works\u2014Nymph\u00e9as\u00a0<\/em>(1907) and\u00a0Camille assise sur la plage \u00e0 Trouville\u00a0<\/em>(1870\u201371)\u2014carry estimates of \u00a330 million to \u00a340 million ($40 million to $53.5 million) and \u00a37 million to \u00a310 million ($9.4 million to $13.4 million), respectively. Both works appeared recently at auction, and are being consigned by the same anonymous collector.w<\/p>\n \n\tIf you, like me, couldn\u2019t make it out to Los Angeles for the opening of Refik Anadol\u2019s glitzy new AI art museum and are wondering what, exactly, is up with it,\u00a0Hyperallergic<\/em>\u2019s Matt Stromberg has you covered. Stromberg\u00a0walks<\/strong>\u00a0readers through his \u201cwhirling,\u201d \u201chyper-stimulating,\u201d and \u201cnumb[ing]\u201d visit to Dataland, and comes away with the unsettling conclusion that, for Anadol, data is \u201can end rather than a tool.\u201d As much as Dataland seems eager to flaunt the data behind the many works on view, the \u201cdata cloud,\u201d in Stromberg\u2019s estimation, tends to overwhelm the viewer rather than clarify anything. And for all the supposed transparency, there\u2019s strikingly little information available about how the museum is financed or governed. It is, after all, a private for-profit institution, with an extensive roster of tech industry partners and collaborators.
