Every year, the Australian winter season starts over the King\u2019s Birthday weekend in Victoria and New South Wales ski resorts.<\/strong> Some years there is loads of snow, others there is no snow, but there are always parties. This year, there was some snow, definitely some partying, and plenty of sunshine.<\/p>\n

This past weekend at Mt. Hotham<\/a>, there was enough snow to go for a slide.<\/strong> After a week of stormy weather, which brought a combination of rain and wet snow, there was snow to get some of Mt Hotham\u2019s beginner terrain going. For Saturday, June 6, the flat where first-timer lessons are given was ready, and the nearby magic carpet, The Summit Trainer.<\/p>\n

While many more experienced thrill seekers hiked higher up the Summit above the magic carpet to get a few more turns in.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Sunday, at lunch time, the resort opened The Summit Chairlift for the rest of the weekend.<\/strong> This really brought a buzz to the resort. The day was sunny and beautiful, a good place for skiers and boarders to get their feet under them. Coverage was a little thin in places, but the snow was good.<\/p>\n

Monday, June 8, conditions improved as the snow machines had been firing overnight, which made a nice top-up to the early-season conditions.<\/strong> The sun continued to shine all day.<\/p>\n

To celebrate the early snow and encourage new skiers and snowboarders, Mt Hotham offered $99 lift tickets with $1 lessons for first-time adults and $54 lift tickets with $1 lessons for children.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The weather for the whole weekend was beautiful and sunny, a touch too warm.<\/strong> The resort was buzzing with those moving in for the season or people visiting the snow for the first time.<\/p>\n

Come Tuesday, June 9, a system of strong winds, fog, and heavy rain came in and impacted the snowpack.<\/strong> It is early in the season for Mt. Hotham<\/a>, Australia, but fret not: the real snow will come soon.<\/p>\n
