Ubisoft Winnipeg, and Ubisoft Belgrade, are being shuttered. <a href=\"https:\/\/insider-gaming.com\/ubisoft-winnipeg-closed-dozens-laid-off\/\">Insider Gaming<\/a> was first to break the news, but reports from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamedeveloper.com\/business\/ubisoft-closing-winnipeg-and-belgrade-studios-and-making-further-layoffs\">Game Developer<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.videogameschronicle.com\/news\/ubisoft-closing-multiple-studios\/\">VGC<\/a> have shed more light on the broader impact.<\/p>\n<p>Winnipeg was mainly a support and tech studio, working on Ubisoft&#8217;s proprietary Anvil, and Snowdrop engines. Belgrade was another smaller co-developer that contributed to various projects such as Ghost Recon Wildlands, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/games\/the-crew-2\">The Crew 2<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/games\/skull-and-bones\">Skull and Bones<\/a> and others.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the same decision, Ubisoft Barcelona will now only focus on developing and supporting Rainbow Six projects. This restructuring will also affect the company&#8217;s Global Publishing team, as per one report.<\/p>\n<p>The cuts were announced internally, with some employees finding out Wednesday in a meeting with management. In March, the publisher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/ubisoft-reportedly-shrinks-tom-clancy-studio-red-storm-entertainment-laying-off-105-staff\">laid off over 100 people at Ghost Recon custodian studio Red Storm Entertainment<\/a>. The studio has since shifted to supporting the wider Ubisoft apparatus across its proprietary Snowdrop engine, and other technical operations. It is no longer making its own games.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/ubisofts-troubled-prince-of-persia-sands-of-time-remake-is-dead-as-publisher-kills-multiple-projects-closes-studios-and-orders-staff-back-to-the-office\">the company shuttered its Halifax and Stockholm studios in a massive, company-wide restructuring move<\/a> that also saw headcount reductions at Ubisoft Abu Dhabi, Redlynx, and even Massive Entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>Ubisoft announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/ubisoft-and-tencent-announce-new-subsidiary-vantage-studios-to-lead-development-for-the-assassins-creed-far-cry-rainbow-six-franchises\">a \u20ac1.16bn Tencent investment in October last year<\/a>, which saw the establishment of a new subsidiary, Vantage Studios, that it said would focus on its biggest franchises: Assassin\u2019s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, Ubisoft has embarked on a cost-cutting initiative as part of a company-wide effort to reorganise its teams and focus on its biggest money-makers.<\/p>\n<p>Vantage has a complicated ownership within Ubisoft. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/companies\/tencent\">Tencent<\/a> owns a 25 percent stake, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/charlie-guillemot-follows-father-as-co-ceo-of-ubisofts-new-tencent-funded-subsidiary-nepotism-claims-addressed\">creative and leadership decisions are handled by Christophe Derennes, and Charlie Guillemot<\/a>, the son of Ubisoft CEO Yves.
