Although MB&F do make watches, they\u2019d probably push back at the notion they\u2019re a mere \u2018watchmaker\u2019. Founded 20 years ago by Maximilian B\u00fcsser (and friends), it\u2019s a self-styled \u2018horological concept laboratory\u2019 where avant-garde designs are crafted into something wearable.<\/p>\n

It makes all the sense in the world, then, that their latest creation, the\u00a0Horological Machine No.12, is the face of a robot. And we don\u2019t just mean \u2018looks a bit like it could be the face of a robot\u2019. This is the first timepiece created by the pairing of B\u00fcsser and designer Maximilian Maertens, although it doesn\u2019t mean the end of the line for collaborations between B\u00fcsser and creative director Eric Giroud, who\u2019ve been responsible for the past two decades of leftfield timekeeping.<\/p>\n

MB&F say it\u2019s one of the most complex mechanisms they\u2019ve ever built. \u201cThe face is built around two \u2018eyes\u2019 displaying bidirectional jumping hours and trailing minutes,\u201d explains the official literature.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cA \u2018brain\u2019 in the form of a 60-second flying tourbillon; and a \u2018mouth\u2019 shaped like a battle-axe, integrated into a double-sided micro-rotor\u201d comprise the face.<\/p>\n

The titanium and sapphire case is just as intricate, featuring a variety of finishes, mobile lugs and a deeply intricate architecture.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

And yes, the robot\u2019s body is available for purchase too. With 755 individual components, it contains even more parts than the watch itself, making it quite the desk piece.<\/p>\n

Deeply irresponsible, if you ask us. What if that latest \u2018dangerous\u2019 Claude release gets into one of these? It\u2019ll be intercepting our delivery packages and enslaving us in large swathes within days.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, it\u2019s yours for CHF 280,000, or about \u00a3261,875, plus VAT.
