class="post-body-content">

Summary

Insta360 officially introduced the Luna Ultra 8K handheld gimbal camera to the market

The device features a dual-lens system co-engineered with Leica boasting a 1-inch primary sensor and a telephoto lens with 12x zoom

A detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen doubles as a wireless remote with a 65-foot range

Insta360 officially launched the Luna Ultra as its new flagship 8K stabilized handheld camera. Following an initial closed-door teaser at NAB 2026, the device arrives to redefine the boundaries of mobile filmmaking. The brand positioned this release as a premium solution for creators who demand high-resolution video and advanced stabilization in a highly compact form factor. Merging cinema-grade hardware with intelligent software bridges the gap between cumbersome professional rigs and everyday vlogging tools.

The camera relies on a sophisticated dual-lens system co-engineered with Leica. A primary 1-inch 8K sensor utilizes a Leica Summicron lens with an F1.8 aperture to capture 14 stops of dynamic range. A secondary 1/1.3-inch sensor pairs with a telephoto lens to deliver 6x lossless and 12x hybrid zoom capabilities. This optical array ensures creators can shoot incredibly sharp footage across five distinct focal lengths without sacrificing quality. The system supports professional color grading workflows by offering 8K Dolby Vision and 10-bit I-Log color profiles natively compatible with DaVinci Resolve.

Processing power comes from a Triple AI Chip architecture featuring two dedicated imaging chips alongside a 4nm flagship processor. This setup drives the 4K60fps PureVideo mode for superior low-light performance and handles the demanding Deep Track 5.0 algorithms. The upgraded tracking software maintains subject focus through active zoom tracking and group framing. These features allow solo operators to capture dynamic action shots with minimal manual intervention.

Hardware innovation extends to the physical controls of the Luna Ultra. A standout feature is the detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen. Users can remove the screen from the main gimbal and use it as a wireless remote for monitoring and controlling the device from up to 65 feet away. The camera also includes a built-in timecode generator for seamless multi-camera synchronization.

Insta360 equipped the unit with 47GB of internal storage to ensure creators can start shooting immediately without an external SD card. A 1550mAh battery powers the gimbal for up to four hours of continuous recording and supports PD fast charging to reach 80 percent capacity in just 23 minutes. The system integrates directly with the brand’s wireless audio ecosystem. Users can connect up to two Mic Pro transmitters directly to the camera to capture pristine dual-person audio without adding bulky receivers.

Sources

Insta360

Insta360 Luna Ultra – Flagship Dual-Lens Gimbal Camera

Insta360 Blog

Official blog detailing the introduction of the Luna at NAB Show 2026.

Related Stories

>This Japanese-Made AirTag Carabiner Is the Most Elegant Way to Never Lose Your Gear

>The Marshall Stockwell III Portable Speaker Emphasizes Repair

>Razer Enters the XLR Space With a $250 USD Hybrid Mic

We got you covered. class="post-body-content">

We got you covered. dual-lens system co-engineered with Leica boasting a 1-inch primary sensor and a telephoto lens with 12x zoom
