Capcom has discussed the eye-catching inclusion of Tifa from Final Fantasy 7 came to be a guest DLC character in Street Fighter 6, and explained why she\u2019s a perfect fit for the game.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The announcement of Tifa as one of Street Fighter 6\u2019s Year 4 DLC characters, alongside Yasmine, Arjun, and Bosch, was one of the standout moments of Summer Game Fest 2026<\/a>. Tekken fans had hoped for Tifa to make her way to Bandai Namco\u2019s game, but instead she\u2019s gone with Street Fighter 6. So, how did it happen?<\/p>\n

IGN\u2019s Simon Cardy spoke with Street Fighter director Takayuki Nakayama and producer Shuhei Matsumoto to find out. It turns out the pair have a mutual friend who works at Square Enix, who they began talking to about a collaboration of some kind around three years ago. These talks led to the request for Tifa, which proved successful.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe initial conversation began roughly three years ago,\u201d Nakayama explained. \u201cWe have a mutual friend who works at Square Enix, who’s also a big fan of Street Fighter 6. We\u2019d been discussing about, what can we do to collaborate somehow? And then eventually those conversations led to, what about a potential guest character from one of their IPs or series?<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd around that time the Final Fantasy 7 remake series was very active, and looking at the character background, a character like Tifa, who has a heavy martial arts style, we thought that it would be perfect for Street Fighter 6. So it kind of organically led to this happening.\u201d<\/p>\n

Street Fighter 6 released three years ago, in June 2023, so those talks occurred very early in the game\u2019s life, or perhaps even before it came out. By that time Final Fantasy 7 remake was in full flow, having launched in 2020 and with Rebirth coming out in 2024. The third game in the remake trilogy, Revelation, is due out in 2027.<\/p>\n
