But Jan-Willem is under a magnifying glass.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Latest dispute centers on timing of rule change<\/h2>\n<p>As the dust settles, more details are emerging about what unfolded during Sunday\u2019s final stage.<\/p>\n<p>The controversy began when Van Schip was disqualified Sunday for what officials described as non-compliant clothing after he tucked water bottles inside his jersey while attacking.<\/p>\n<p>Things quickly went off the rails.<\/p>\n<p>According to <em>Ouest-France<\/em>, the Dutchman refused to leave the race because he believed he had not broken any current regulation.<\/p>\n<p>The standoff escalated when UCI officials called in French police, who ultimately stopped Van Schip and removed him from the race.<\/p>\n<p>Van Schip addressed the disqualification on Instagram but made no mention of the police intervention. He has not commented publicly since.<\/p>\n<p>Tabak argued the UCI regulation cited by officials does not come into force until July 1.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cAs far as we are concerned, that rule does not apply yet,\u201d Tabak said. \u201cJan-Willem knows those rules, which is why he did not want to stop. In the end he was forced to by the <em>gendarmerie<\/em>. If that hadn\u2019t happened, the race would have been stopped.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The UCI\u2019s new jersey-pocket rule, introduced last week but officially not on the books until next month, requires riders to carry food, clothing, bottles, and accessories only in rear jersey pockets, with limited exceptions during racing.<\/p>\n<p>The measure aims to stop riders from stuffing jerseys to gain an aerodynamic edge. A small front pocket remains permitted for race radios only.<\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Every day they came to check his bike\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Some view Van Schip\u2019s forced removal as extreme.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday\u2019s incident marked his third disqualification since October, following other DSQs from the Tour of the Netherlands over a bike compliance issue and the Tour of Hellas because of his riding position.<\/p>\n<p>Tabak said he believes Van Schip has become a marked man.<\/p>\n<p>He said officials inspected the Dutch rider\u2019s bike every day at the Ronde de l\u2019Oise and subjected him to checks other riders simply weren\u2019t receiving.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cEvery single day they came to check Jan-Willem\u2019s bike. Every day,\u201d Tabak said. \u201cIf they can find anything, they get you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Tabak, the attention follows the team even when Van Schip is not racing.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed to the recent Fl\u00e8che du Sud, where officials informed the team just 10 minutes before a stage start that its wheels were not approved, only to clear them after reviewing the paperwork.<\/p>\n<p>Tabak said he has repeatedly contacted the UCI seeking clarification on equipment regulations but has yet to receive a response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey keep pestering us at every single international race,\u201d Tabak said. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter what we do.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>A decision to make<\/h2>\n<p>Van Schip \u2014 a two-time world track champion \u2014 is consulting with the riders\u2019 union as the team weighs its next move.<\/p>\n<p>Tabak said the team is frustrated that the controversy has overshadowed what should have been a successful week for the third-tier Dutch squad.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Mathis Avondts won stage 2 of the Ronde de l\u2019Oise, but most of the attention has landed on Van Schip\u2019s latest run-in with officials.<\/p>\n<p>Tabak suggested says the simplest solution may be exactly what the UCI wants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn his current bike, with his current position, and with the things he does, you shouldn\u2019t take him to any UCI race anymore,\u201d he told <em>Wielerflits<\/em>. \u201cWherever there is a camera, they disqualify him.
