\n\tTony Awards host P!nk brought an iconic pop culture reference from 25 years ago to 2026\u2019s ceremony, opening the televised show with a leading lady-themed remake of \u201cLady Marmalade.\u201d Megan Thee Stallion, who recently took an early exit from her run in Moulin Rouge<\/em>, took the New York stage in her Zidler costume next to P!nk and reworked Lil\u2019 Kim\u2019s rap from the 2001 supergroup single during Sunday night\u2019s (June 7) lively performance.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe parody of \u201cLady Marmalade\u201d (based on the Grammy-winning version of the song P!nk once recorded with Lil\u2019 Kim, Christina Aguilera and Mya), \u201cLeading Lady Marmalade,\u201d had P!nk highlighting several of Broadway\u2019s best in the tune\u2019s \u201cgitchie, gitchie\u201d chorus.<\/p>\n

\n\tLea Michele, who wasn\u2019t nominated for an award this year, joined in for a cameo to hit Xtina\u2019s big vocal note from the original \u201cLady Marmalade\u201d \u2014 but swapped in a fitting lyric, all things considered: \u201cWe don\u2019t do it for the awards.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJune Squibb, nominated in the best performance by an actress in a featured role in a play category, and seated in the front row at Radio City Music Hall, also had a scene-stealing moment. When the mic was pointed her way, Squibb \u2014 who\u2019s the oldest acting nominee in Tony Awards history \u2014 quipped to the tune of \u201cMocha Chocolata, ya-ya<\/em>\u201c: \u201cAll the parts I\u2019ve played, I\u2019ve slayed \u2019em.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBacked by a full-stage ensemble that included familiar faces like Broadway\u2019s Dylan Mulvaney, Shoshana Bean, Neil Patrick Harris and more, the opening number ended with a soaring \u201cWelcome to the Tony Awards!\u201d from P!nk.<\/p>\n

\n\tHarris, who\u2019s had four turns hosting the awards ceremony himself, had helped P!nk lead into the \u201cLeading Lady Marmalade\u201d scene after the pop star first made a spinning-in-the-air entrance, dressed as Peter Pan.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI just wanna show how much I love theater even though I\u2019ve never been on Broadway,\u201d she told Harris, who wondered what she was up to.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBut you\u2019re P!nk, you can do anything,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBut I\u2019m worried some people will wonder why P!nk is hosting the Tonys. I just want to make sure everyone knows I\u2019m thrilled to be here and I want my opener to be as \u2018Broadway\u2019 as possible,\u201d P!nk insisted.<\/p>\n

\n\tP!nk had hinted at a \u201cwild\u201d Tony Awards opening number in interviews in the days leading up to this year\u2019s ceremony. Without spoiling the \u201cLady Marmalade\u201d nod, P!nk told Broadway.com, \u201cIt\u2019s just a full-blown ridiculous celebration. I told them my one caveat was that immediately as soon as I step onto the stage, I have to make fun of myself, and make it absolutely just about fun and celebrating everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n
