James Turrell\u00a0<\/strong>is debuting his largest Skyspace to date in a museum setting, at Denmark\u2019s\u00a0<strong>ARoS Aarhus Art Museum<\/strong>, opening June 19, according to the\u00a0<strong><em>Financial Times<\/em><\/strong>. \u201cI always wanted people to value light,\u201d said the American artist, who uses light and color as his media, often shifting the viewer\u2019s sense of orientation. \u201cIn art, people \u2014 particularly collectors \u2014 are always looking for treasure. That\u2019s why painting still holds force, though we\u2019ve gone forward in the world. And I paint with light. I use light to work the medium of perception,\u201d he said. Turrell has been making Skyspaces \u2014 rooms with a hole cut into the ceiling, exposing the sky \u2014 since 1974. This latest, and largest, iteration for a museum is titled\u00a0<em>As Seen Below \u2013 The Dome, a Skyspace<\/em>. And if, like the\u00a0<em>FT<\/em>\u00a0reporter, you are wondering whether Turrell has a favorite color, that\u2019s \u201clike asking who\u2019s your favorite child,\u201d the artist said. \u201cEven if you have one, you don\u2019t tell people about it.\u201d The piece also features personal anecdotes from figures including LACMA director\u00a0<strong>Michael Govan<\/strong>and artist and stage designer\u00a0<strong>Es Devlin<\/strong> about their encounters with Turrell\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \"><strong>TESTING THE WATERS<\/strong>.\u00a0We had\u00a0<em>The Love Boat<\/em>, and now we have the\u00a0<strong>Floating Art Hotel<\/strong>. That is what a 236-foot superyacht is calling itself, by virtue of a hyper-exclusive, \u201cmuseum-grade\u201d exhibition it is hosting, titled \u201cStates of Motion,\u201d featuring the likes of\u00a0<strong>Marina Abramovi\u0107\u00a0<\/strong>and<strong>Shirin Neshat<\/strong>, reports\u00a0<strong><em>ARTnews<\/em><\/strong>\u2019\u00a0Brian Boucher. To get in, one needs to\u00a0<strong>reserve a suite<\/strong>and get to the port facing the Monte Carlo casino in Monaco Bay by June 8, to catch the maiden voyage, conceived as a \u201ctraveling private members\u2019 club at sea.\u201d From there, an itinerary takes passengers to Miami, Hong Kong, and Abu Dhabi, in five-star-hospitality style\u2014which includes a \u201ccurated\u201d (just like the art!) wellness program, per organizers. By preview day on Thursday, the 14 available private suites were at 80 percent capacity, and pricing information has not been disclosed. French-Swiss artist\u00a0<strong>Julian Charri\u00e8re<\/strong> wants \u201cpeople to get all the way back to the beginning of the earth,\u201d he told the\u00a0<strong><em>Guardian<\/em><\/strong>. He spoke at a preview of his new permanent installation at the\u00a0<strong>Museum of Old and New Art<\/strong>\u00a0(Mona) in Tasmania. Titled\u00a0<em>Breathe<\/em>, the artwork invites visitors, one by one, to become the first living beings to inhale \u201cpure,\u201d 2.4-billion-year-old oxygen. The oxygen is extracted from iron ore dating back to the Paleoproterozoic era, when oxygen first began to enter the Earth\u2019s atmosphere\u2014making it, as Charri\u00e8re puts it, as pollution-free as it gets. It is then released into a vault-like room in the bowels of Mona, where visitors are ushered in alone and may experience a connection \u201cto the beginning of life on earth,\u201d per the artist. This, he explains, makes them \u201ca small part of this installation,\u201d and of the oxygen cycle. The same oxygen, he adds, will be released only after the visitor dies. The installation coincides with Charri\u00e8re\u2019s major exhibition, \u201cHard Core,\u201d opening tomorrow and running through March 29, 2027.
