The question of who is the best skier on the mountain is common at ski resorts around the country.<\/strong> Some people may think it\u2019s themselves, and others may think it\u2019s professional skiers. While most folks on the mountain will never ski with an actual professional skier, that leaves the two groups of people who are on the mountain the most: ski patrollers and instructors.<\/p>\n

SnowBrains<\/em> asked our followers in a Facebook question: Who\u2019s The Best Skier On The Mountain: Patrollers or Instructors?<\/a><\/em><\/strong> The results were not surprising with 45% to 50% choosing ski patrollers, 23% to 28% choosing instructors, and 27% to 32% saying neither. Some of the answers were not a clear vote, with some comments saying \u201cit depends,\u201d however, the raw numbers favor ski patrollers as the best skiers on the mountain.<\/p>\n

Breaking Down the Numbers<\/span><\/h3>\n

Why did most people choose patrollers as the best skiers on the mountain? <\/strong>Patrollers ski all different types of terrain and in all conditions. That means skiing steep, ice, bumps, powder, glades, closed runs, and avalanche terrain. Plus, they ski those conditions and terrain while being loaded down with packs, ropes, radios, and sometimes with a toboggan with an injured person on it.<\/p>\n

The job requires strength, adaptability, and challenges patrollers with the real-world pressure of performing first aid on an injured skier or rider.<\/strong> In the end, patrollers can\u2019t choose to only ski easy terrain; they have to go where the accident is, regardless of how difficult the conditions are.<\/p>\n

Ski instructors have a difficult job; it\u2019s not just teaching a class of young kids to learn to ski.<\/strong> They are the teachers on the mountain who demonstrate to their students textbook skiing, showing them the proper techniques, form, precision, and efficiency. Their job is to take first-time skiers to expert skiers, and make them better. Even professional skiers have coaches who continue to improve their abilities and skills on the mountain. Many ski patrollers take group classes from instructors to improve their skills as well.<\/p>\n
