Unlike with \u201csticky bottles,\u201d riders are automatically DQ\u2019d for taking a direct tow.<\/p>\n<p>Mikali and Baima\u2019s expulsions come just days after Lorena Wiebes was controversially thrown off the race while wearing the leader\u2019s jersey Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>Officials ruled the Dutch super-speedster rode a bike that was just 20g under the weight limit when she won the opening stage.<\/p>\n<p>Direct disqualifications are rare in WorldTour bike racing, making the severity of Wiebes\u2019 sanction particularly striking.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Wiebes\u2019 managers at SD Worx-Protime publicly questioned the accuracy of the UCI\u2019s measurements and are considering legal action.<\/p>\n<h2>More pee problems at the Giro d\u2019Italia<\/h2>\n<p>The second batch of penalties issued on Wednesday was also eye-catching.<\/p>\n<p>The pee-gate scandal that rippled through the men\u2019s Giro d\u2019Italia trickled across to the women\u2019s race Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Six riders were each fined 100 CHF for \u201curinating in public and damaging the image of the sport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The problem of taking a \u201ccomfort break\u201d in the frenzy of a bike race was thrown into the spotlight last month at the men\u2019s Giro d\u2019Italia.<\/p>\n<p>The UCI warned the peloton to stop peeing in their water bottles, leaving grizzled directors laughing and the public wondering who dunnit.<\/p>\n<p>Victor Campenaerts soon \u2018fessed up and was supported by teammates Jonas Vingegaard and Sepp Kuss for his use of his bidons.<\/p>\n<p>Six riders from just three teams were caught short on Wednesday at the Giro d\u2019Italia Women.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Niamh Fisher-Black, Elisa Balsamo, Isabella Holmgren (Lidl-Trek), C\u00e9lia Gery, Ally Wollaston (FDJ-Suez), and Silke Smulders (Liv-AlUla-Jayco) were sanctioned for their mid-race toilet breaks.<\/p>\n<p>Intriguingly, commissaires also fined two riders at the Giro Women on Monday for \u201cundressing or urinating in public\u201d in the start-finish areas of stage 3.<\/p>\n<p>Holding on to a team car is unacceptable and deserves strict punishment.<\/p>\n<p>Being sanctioned for taking an emergency pee in a bush during a long race seems harsh.<\/p>\n<p>Getting disqualified for riding a bike less than one percent under the weight limit?
