to becoming what is essentially seen as &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/games\/fallout-online\">Fallout Online<\/a>&#8216;, complete with proper questlines and wandering friendly NPCs. Despite all the new content and improvements, however, players were still waiting for proper PS5 and Xbox Series X\/S upgrades, and finally, they&#8217;re <em>almost<\/em> ready to go.<\/p>\n<p>As a side item on yesterday&#8217;s Fallout 76: Infestations (a new content update) <a href=\"https:\/\/fallout.bethesda.net\/en\/article\/7uZ5caUi4lqZxmhKDXqEAV\/fallout-76-infestations-release-notes\">patch notes<\/a>, it was confirmed June would mark the beginning of public testing of the current-gen versions of Fallout 76. &#8220;Available to everyone who owns Fallout 76,&#8221; players just need to download them from the respective stores.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<div class=\"primis_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"primis_video\">\n<p><span class=\"embed_placeholder\" data-type=\"targeting\" style=\"display: none\"><br \/>\n<span class=\"message\">To see this content please enable targeting cookies.<\/span><br \/>\n<button class=\"optanon-show-settings link\"><br \/>\nManage cookie settings<\/button><\/span> <\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption>Fallout 76: The Backwoods &#8211; Official Launch Trailer<a class=\"video\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lZEpjdUsckE\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Watch on YouTube<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The plan is to release the final update &#8220;later this summer&#8221; if testing is completed with no major issues. The list of features isn&#8217;t long, but it includes everything you&#8217;d want out of a current-gen upgrade: 60 FPS targets, better draw distances and shadows, 4K resolution on Xbox Series X, Xbox One X and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/topics\/ps5-pro\">PS5 Pro<\/a>, and Variable Refresh Rate on compatible displays. Oddly enough, the base PS5 is limited to 1440p output resolution, same as PS4 Pro. It&#8217;s also implied Series S will have to stick to 1080p, similarly to base last-generation consoles.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"injection_placeholder\" data-position=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Nothing has been mentioned about how saves may or may not be affected, but we&#8217;re guessing veterans will be able to load up their current characters just fine, as the game&#8217;s insides aren&#8217;t being changed to accommodate these new versions. As for the long-awaited crossplay feature, we know Bethesda has been &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/fallout-76-crossplay-being-explored-but-not-locked\">looking into it<\/a>&#8220;, but nothing has been locked yet.<\/p>\n<p>Following the arrival and ongoing success of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/fallout-season-2-future-of-the-games\">Fallout TV show<\/a>, the video game franchise has experienced a major boost in popularity. In the case of Fallout 76, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/fallout-76s-new-update-features-walton-goggins-as-the-ghoul-from-amazons-tv-series\">tie-in content drops<\/a> have been made available, but no new Fallout games have been formally announced since Amazon premiered the hit series. What about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/fallout-3-remastered-mcfarlane-toys-figure-listings-pop-up-in-multiple-stores\">the rumoured Fallout 3 remaster<\/a>?
