\n\tAs reported by Artnet News<\/em>, \u201cA decade on from the\u00a0National Park Service\u00a0(NPS) announcing plans to\u00a0transform the cavernous space\u00a0beneath the\u00a0Lincoln Memorial\u00a0into a museum, tickets for the newest attraction on the National Mall have gone on sale ahead of its opening on June 25, in time for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Tickets for large\u00a0tours\u00a0of the undercroft on opening day are already sold out.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe new initiative, said to cost $69 million, started with $18.5-million gift from philanthropist\u00a0David M. Rubenstein\u00a0to the\u00a0National Park Foundation in 2016. The National Park Service has covered $26 million, while $43 million has come in through donations by Ken Griffin, the\u00a0John L. Nau III Foundation, the\u00a0Rick L. and Vicki L. James Foundation, and the\u00a0Glenn W. Bailey Foundation, according to Artnet<\/em>.<\/p>\n \n\tNational Park Foundation CEO Jeff Reinbold said in a statement, \u201cThe opening of the\u00a0Lincoln Memorial Undercroft Museum\u00a0is a testament to the power of partnership. <\/strong>We are providing a new way for all people to connect with the enduring legacy of the Lincoln Memorial.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tMike Litterst, a spokesman for the National Mall and Memorial Parks, told DC News Now<\/em>, \u201cYou walk up today, you look at the statue, you look at the speeches. But you don\u2019t understand the symbolism unless you have a really good guidebook with you or take the time.
