\n\tYoung MC is the latest artist to walk away from the lineup of the\u00a0Great American State Fair,\u00a0the event celebrating America\u2019s 250th anniversary.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cBust a Move\u201d rapper was initially announced to the bill, alongside the likes of Martina McBride,\u00a0Flo Rida, C+C Music Factory, Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, The Commodores,\u00a0and others, all of them participating in the 16-day \u201cnational exposition\u201d kicking off June 25 and wrapping up July 10, with musical performances every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a social post, Young MC confirms he is out. \u201cI HAVE INFORMED MY AGENTS THAT I WILL NOT BE PERFORMING AT THE FREEDOM 250 EVENT,\u201d he writes. \u201cThe artists were never told about any political involvement with the event. And despite the claims by the organizers that the event is non-partisan, SPIN<\/em> magazine describes it as Trump-backed. I hope to perform in D.C. in the near future at an event that is not so politically charged.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tA description on the Freedom 250\u00a0website downplays the political angle of the 250th<\/sup> anniversary event. \u201cThe celebration will unite and showcase all 56 U.S. states and territories in a single World\u2019s Fair-scale event,\u201d reads the blurb. \u201cThis is an opportunity for visitors from across America to experience an unforgettable celebration of the people and traditions that define our nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAlso featuring carnival rides and stations showcasing the cultures of all 56 American states and territories, the festival will mark the finale of President Donald Trump\u2019s year-long Great American State Fair, which also involves activations in state fairs across the country. The twice-impeached president\u00a0first previewed plans\u00a0for the celebrations in July last year, with the White House promising at the time that the administration would \u201cthrow the greatest birthday party in American history.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tYoung MC joins Morris Day & The Time, <\/em>which separately left the line-up with the message: \u201cContrary To Rumor, Morris Day & The Time Will Not Be Performing At The \u2018GREAT AMERICAN STATE FAIR.\u2019\u201d A caption for the post adds \u201cIt\u2019s a no for me,\u201d with a smiley-face emoji wearing sunglasses.<\/p>\n

\n\tBorn in London, England, to Jamaican immigrant parents, and raised in New York city, the 59-year-old Young MC (real name: Marvin Young) was one of hip-hop\u2019s earliest hitmakers on the\u00a0Billboard<\/em>\u00a0charts, and enjoyed several top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs a songwriter, he\u2019s credited with two 1989 smashes for Tone-Loc that enjoyed crossovers, not just in the U.S. music scene but on charts and airwaves around the globe. \u201cWild Thing\u201d went to\u00a0No. 2\u00a0on the\u00a0Billboard Hot 100\u00a0\u2013 at the time, the genre\u2019s highest peaking hit on the flagship chart \u2013 while \u201cFunky Cold Medina\u201d nearly duplicated the feat, reaching a No. 3 best. In the same year, he nabbed another classic, this time as a solo artist with \u201cBust a Move,\u201d which blasted to No. 7 on the Hot 100 and won a Grammy Award for best rap performance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
