Garros so far by dumping out Marin Cilic in his opening round match at the Grand Slam.<\/p>\n<p>The Frenchman is expected to be one of the sports\u2019 next top players, having picked up his first ATP Tour victory earlier this year at the Miami Open, but he has yet to truly back that up with a big performance on the biggest stage.<\/p>\n<p>That is, until, now. Kouame played a superb match to dispatch Cilic in straight sets by a scoreline of 7-6, 6-2, 6-2. Cilic looked to be suffering from a shoulder injury, but the young Frenchman showed excellent poise to get over the line against the former Grand Slam champion.<\/p>\n<h2>More French Open news<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/john-mcenroe-jannik-sinner-french-open-roland-garros-carlos-alcaraz-absence\">John McEnroe reveals \u2018the best chance\u2019 of Jannik Sinner losing at the French Open<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/french-open\/novak-djokovic-injury-concern-french-open\">Novak Djokovic injury concern raised that could threaten his French Open dreams<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In beating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/Moise-Kouame\">Cilic<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/roland-garros\">Roland Garros<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/Moise-Kouame\">Kouame<\/a> has become the youngest player in the Open Era to defeat a Grand Slam champion in Men\u2019s Singles at Roland Garros, according to <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/OptaAce\/status\/2059240273956479464?s=20\" target=\"_blank\">OptaAce<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The 17-year-old has achieved the feat at a younger age than some of the greatest male players to ever play the sport, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/Mats-Wilander\">Mats Wilander<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/Boris-Becker\">Boris Becker<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Youngest players to defeat Grand Slam champions at Roland Garros<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Moise Kouame \u2013 17 years and 81 days<\/li>\n<li>Michael Chang \u2013 17 years and 97 days<\/li>\n<li>Guy Forget \u2013 17 days and 140 days<\/li>\n<li>Boris Becker \u2013 17 years and 187 days<\/li>\n<li>Mats Wilander \u2013 17 years and 275 days<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Kouame achieved the feat 16 days younger than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/Michael-Chang\">Michael Chang<\/a> managed in 1989, when he defeated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/Ivan-Lendl\">Ivan Lendl<\/a> in the fourth round of the competition.
