while Novak Djokovic could face a big drop if he fails to reach the business end.<\/p>\n<p>Canadian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/felix-auger-aliassime\">Auger-Aliassime<\/a> was stunned in the first round at Roland Garros last year as he was beaten in five sets by the unseeded Matteo Arnaldi, earning just 10 points for his efforts at the clay-court Grand Slam.<\/p>\n<p>In case you didn\u2019t know, the ATP uses a rolling 52-week, cumulative merit-based method system that includes a player\u2019s best 18 results (19 if they play at the ATP Finals) to determine the rankings.<\/p>\n<p>In layman\u2019s terms, players earn points per round at each tournament they enter and 12 months later the points drop at the same event or the corresponding period, and they then have the chance to earn points again for the tournament progression.<\/p>\n<p>Auger-Aliassime started the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/french-open\">French Open<\/a> at No 6 in the official ATP Rankings, but with No 4 Novak Djokovic and No 5 Ben Shelton dropping more points at the start of the tournament, he has moved up two spots to a new career high.<\/p>\n<h2>ATP Rankings At Start Of French Open<\/h2>\n<p>1. Jannik Sinner \u2013 14,750<br \/>\n2. Carlos Alcaraz \u2013 11,960<br \/>\n3. Alexander Zverev \u2013 5,705<br \/>\n4. Novak Djokovic \u2013 4,460<br \/>\n5. Ben Shelton \u2013 4,070<br \/>\n6. Felix Auger-Aliassime \u2013 4,050<br \/>\n7. Alex de Minaur \u2013 3,855<br \/>\n8. Daniil Medvedev \u2013 3,760<br \/>\n9. Taylor Fritz \u2013 3,720<br \/>\n10. Alexander Bublik \u2013 3,320<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian \u2013 who starts his campaign in Paris on Tuesday against Daniel Altmaier \u2013 is only a handful of points ahead of Shelton and Alex de Minaur in the Live Rankings so he will need a deep run if he is to finish the tournament with a new career-high of fourth.<\/p>\n<h2>French Open News<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/john-mcenroe-jannik-sinner-french-open-roland-garros-carlos-alcaraz-absence\">John McEnroe reveals \u2018the best chance\u2019 of Jannik Sinner losing at the French Open<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/novak-djokovic-message-roland-garros-giovanni-mpetshi-perricard\">Novak Djokovic makes 13-word statement after first round French Open win<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He could also climb to No 3, but he will need to win the tournament and hope Alexander Zverev loses before the semi-final.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest dropper in the top 10 so far is Djokovic with the 24-time Grand Slam winner slipping five spots to No 9 in the Live Rankings as he dropped 750 points from his semi-final appearance 12 months ago.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/novak-djokovic-message-roland-garros-giovanni-mpetshi-perricard\">Djokovic has already won his opening match<\/a> at Roland Garros and will face Valentin Royer in the second round and he could return to No 3 in the rankings if he wins the tournament, while another appearance in the last four or a runners-up finish could be good enough for fourth again if those ahead of him fail to reach the business end.<\/p>\n<h2>Live ATP Rankings (26 May)<\/h2>\n<p>1. Ben Shelton \u2013 3,920<br \/>\n6. Alex de Minaur \u2013 3,855 (+1)<br \/>\n7. Daniil Medvedev \u2013 3,760 (+1)<br \/>\n8. Taylor Fritz \u2013 3,720 (+1)<br \/>\n9. Novak Djokovic \u2013 3,710 (-5)<br \/>\n10.
