Timothy Dattels, Chairman of <a href=\"https:\/\/alpinecanada.org\/\">Alpine Canada<\/a>, represents the other North American voice. Despite recent presentations and appeasements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>That final phrase \u2014 \u201cdespite recent presentations and appeasements\u201d \u2014 is pointed.<\/strong> It suggests the signatories have been given reassurances by FIS leadership that they no longer find credible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The concern is not merely institutional.<\/strong> Many smaller and mid-sized national ski federations depend directly on FIS redistribution to fund athlete development, coaching structures, and participation in international competition. \u201cThis situation affects all of us,\u201d the letter states. \u201cIn particular we believe it is essential that FIS remains in a position to continue providing meaningful distributions and support mechanisms to all NSAs \u2014 especially small and medium-sized nations \u2014 in the years ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Governance Failures \u2014 Including a 24-Hour Budget Drop<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>The letter\u2019s most specific allegation concerns a recent FIS Council meeting.<\/strong> \u201cThe FIS budget was shared with the FIS Council less than 24 hours before their meeting this week,\u201d the signatories write, referring to the Portoro\u017e meetings at which many of them were present. \u201cUnfortunately, this is not an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern that has developed over time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The authors describe a sustained pattern of incomplete and delayed information sharing that has \u201climited the ability of elected bodies to properly fulfil their responsibilities on behalf of the membership.\u201d<\/strong> They call for \u201cstronger transparency, proper communication and governance standards in line with the FIS need to \u2014 the target is unmistakable \u2014 the \u201ccurrent leadership\u201d referred to throughout is his administration, and the call for new presidential candidates is an explicit rejection of his continued tenure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eliasch is a Swedish-born billionaire and owner of HEAD, the ski equipment brand used by many of the world\u2019s top racers.<\/strong> He became FIS President in 2021 in circumstances that generated immediate controversy: he ran as the sole candidate and 56 of FIS\u2019s 126 member associations walked out of the vote rather than legitimize the process.
