Citroen owner Stellantis has today confirmed it does not understand how capitalisation works, because it has announced a new \u2018FaSTLAne\u2019 bidness proposal that outlines what cars it intends to produce by 2030.<\/p>\n

And one of those cars is \u2013 no surprise if you\u2019ve consumed the headline \u2013 the Citroen 2CV. Yes folks, the hero of the French resistance is making a comeback<\/a> as an \u2018affordable\u2019 electric car.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cReinventing the 2CV of tomorrow is a huge challenge and responsibility,\u201d said Citroen boss Xavier Chardon. \u201cThe original 2CV was never created to become an icon. It became one because it gave people freedom. The new 2CV will carry that same spirit forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

The news isn\u2019t a surprise in today\u2019s world of reharvesting popular monikers for a new audience \u2013 R5<\/a>, Capri<\/a>, Frontera<\/a> etc \u2013 but it does come after successive former Citroen bosses all told TopGear.com that a return for France\u2019s most lovable and hardy automobile was not really top of the list<\/a>, nor any appetite for mining retro<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

We do not know anything about the new 2CV at this stage – aside from the fact that a) it’ll be either called or ‘inspired by’ the 2CV, b) it’ll be electric, duh, c) that we’ll see and understand more in October 2026 – and so Citroen has instead given us a Philosophy 101 class: \u201cIn a world once again searching for more accessible and meaningful mobility solutions,\u201d it said, \u201ceverything that made the 2CV unique feels more relevant than ever. With this new model, Citro\u00ebn will reinterpret that philosophy for a new generation.<\/p>\n

\u201cInspired by the spirit of the original \u2014 not by nostalgia \u2014 the future vehicle will embody the essential values that have always defined the 2CV: affordability, lightweight design, practicality, versatility and a distinctive character unlike anything else on the road.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Oh, about that \u2018FaSTLAne\u2019 thing? Obviously we know it\u2019s because Stellantis has just announced a new \u2018STLA One\u2019 platform from which it plans to spin out its future.
