After two hours of hard racing I tried to jump straight to the breakaway,\u201d Narv\u00e1ez said. \u201cI realized that Enric Mas was the strongest in the climb. I knew I had to play my game. I defended myself up the hills. I got scared when he launched the sprint and almost blocked me to the barriers. I was on the limit because it was full gas the whole day.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Overnight leader Afonso Eul\u00e1lio defended pink and Vingegaard brushed aside any hint of a hangover following Tuesday\u2019s somewhat flat individual time trial by finishing safely in the GC group.<\/p>\n<h2>Transition in the Italian sun<\/h2>\n<p>The rollercoaster stage along a string of narrow climbs above Italy\u2019s Cinque Terre eventually saw a group of 17 extract themselves to hunt for the stage.<\/p>\n<p>Fine spring weather welcomed the peloton for a tricky transition stage that had breakaway written all over it.<\/p>\n<p>Narv\u00e1ez initially missed the first wave of moves, but UAE\u2019s Mikkel Bjerg and Ant\u00f3nio Morgado drove the pursuit before Narv\u00e1ez finally bridged across on the Passo del Termine with about 80km to go.<\/p>\n<p>The technical roads triggered some crashes. Davide Ballerini (Astana), a winner earlier in this Giro, crashed out. Martin Tjotta (Uno-X) and Edward Planckaert (Alpecin-Premier Tech) also did not finish. The peloton was 3 minutes off the back, so the win was up for grabs.<\/p>\n<p>Eul\u00e1lio rolled in with the front group for another day in pink.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a big fight for the breakaway. It took a long time before a group went and my team did a perfect job like the other days.
