According to\u00a0Amnesty International, the\u00a0roughly 7\u00a0million Palestinian refugees living today\u00a0comprise\u00a0one of the world\u2019s largest displaced populations.\u00a0The\u00a0exhibition\u2019s\u00a0website\u00a0describes the show as exploring \u201cthe human rights violations related to the ongoing forced displacement and dispossession of Palestinians\u201d through \u201cpersonal stories\u201d shared by Palestinian Canadians.\u00a0Presented together, the video testimonies, photography, visual art, and text \u201creveal enduring patterns of loss and resistance,\u201d the website says, adding that the exhibition was developed in collaboration with an advisory network of scholars.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe presence of Palestinian perspectives in Western cultural institutions has been an enduring\u00a0flashpoint\u00a0since the October 7 Hamas-led attack on Israel and the subsequent Israeli military response. The\u00a0World Health Organization estimates\u00a0that more than 70,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip between October 2023 and May 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn the meantime, accusations of censorship of Palestinian perspectives have affected major museums, including the British Museum and the\u00a0Whitney Museum, as well as prominent international events: this year\u2019s Venice Biennale was preceded by\u00a0controversies\u00a0surrounding art related to Palestine,\u00a0while\u00a0its\u00a0opening\u00a0was disrupted by\u00a0demonstrators\u00a0against the participation of Israel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn\u00a0the seven-page\u00a0filing,\u00a0dated May 14,\u00a0Shurat HaDin \u2013 Israel Law Center\u00a0argues that the exhibition omits key historical context\u00a0regarding\u00a0Jewish ties to the region and that staging the exhibition could turn the museum into \u201ca platform for partisan political advocacy.\u201d\u00a0The organization is demanding that the\u00a0Canadian Museum for Human Rights\u00a0halt work on the exhibition, commission an independent legal and scholarly review of its contents, and publicly retract its statements that\u00a0Israel has committed human rights violations against Palestinian, among other demands.
