When Olivia Rodrigo<\/a> released \u201cDrop Dead<\/a>\u201d last month, we never considered that the lead single to her next album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love<\/em><\/a>, <\/em>would also double as an Easter egg for the follow-up single. How foolish we were.<\/p>\n

On May 19, Rodrigo announced her new song, \u201cThe Cure,\u201d arrives on Friday, May 22. \u201c\u2018The Cure\u2019 comes out this Friday,\u201d the singer wrote on Instagram. \u201cIt\u2019s my favorite song on the album and one of my favorite songs I\u2019ve ever made. Couldn\u2019t be more excited for you guys to hear it.\u201d To understand the Easter egg, you have to put on your stan-thinking-cap first: Rodrigo has long been a fan of the English rock band The Cure<\/a>, going so far as to invite lead singer Robert Smith<\/a> on stage during her 2025 Glastonbury set for a performance of \u201cFriday I\u2019m In Love<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cut to the first verse of \u201cDrop Dead\u201d when she sings: \u201cYou know all the words to \u2018Just Like Heaven\u2019 \/ And I know why he wrote them now that you\u2019re standing right here.\u201d \u201cJust Like Heaven,\u201d is, of course, another hit by The Cure, and while it\u2019s not a perfect one-to-one, anything can pass for an Easter egg these days.<\/p>\n

Rodrigo began teasing the new track a day prior, taking to her infamous OR3 wall to share the lyrics, \u201cWhy can\u2019t you come stitch me up?\u201d and \u201cIt\u2019ll never be the cure.\u201d Judging by the little teaser we\u2019ve already gotten, it\u2019s safe to assume the song won\u2019t actually be a reference to Robert Smith and co., but again, we\u2019re willing to give her a pass on this one.<\/p>\n
