Operation Brock involves setting up a contraflow system on the M20 coastbound, between junction eight, near Leeds Castle, and junction nine, near Ashford, so one side of the carriageway can become a lorry park if there are problems at the Port of Dover or Eurotunnel.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Work to install the barrier will take place on Tuesday evening and the M20 will reopen on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The barrier is set to be removed overnight on 26 May, with the motorway reopening as normal the following day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Kent and Medway Resilience Forum (KMRF) said there would be a reduced speed limit to create dedicated lanes for HGVs to queue, if needed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Simon Jones, KMRF’s strategic lead for border disruption, said: “We understand this decision is not always popular, and we do not take this step lightly.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

“Our priority is ensuring everyone’s safety. These measures combined with traffic management officers and partner resources will help to keep Kent moving during the busy getaway period.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The forum explained that Operation Brock reduced the risk of having to close the Roundhill Tunnel near Folkestone, which could cause disruption on local roads and impact communities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Lydden Hill Race Circuit was also available as a contingency site for passenger traffic in the event of an “extreme scenario”, the KMRF said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
