He joined the UAC in the late 1990s, initially overseeing data collection and safety forecasts for the remote Uinta and Manti-La Sal mountain ranges.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" data-path-to-node=\"3\"><strong>Gordon\u2019s career trajectory shifted following a devastating post-Christmas avalanche in 2003 near Sundance Resort that claimed the lives of three young backcountry users.<\/strong> Recognizing that traditional, academic safety lectures were failing to resonate with younger skiers and snowboarders, Gordon partnered with then-director Bruce Tremper to develop the \u201cKnow Before You Go\u201d awareness program.
