Nvidia hit a $5.7 trillion market capitalisation in mid-May. And where does Europe stand?<\/p>\n<p>Nvidia, the US-based semiconductor firm whose chips power everything from video games to AI systems, is the world&#8217;s most valuable company. After becoming the first company to pass $5 trillion (\u20ac4.38tn) in market capitalisation in October 2025, its value reached $5.7 trillion (\u20ac4.89tn) in mid-May 2026. <\/p>\n<p>Having already surpassed Japan and the UK in economic size, it now overtakes Germany&#8217;s projected 2026 GDP as well, according to the IMF. Market capitalisation data is sourced from CompaniesMarketCap as of 14 May 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The IMF predicts that Germany\u2019s 2026 GDP would be $5.45 trillion (\u20ac4.67tn). The US remains the world&#8217;s largest economy at $32.38tn (\u20ac27.75tn), followed by China at $20.58tn (\u20ac17.87tn).<\/p>\n<p>As Germany is Europe&#8217;s largest economy, Nvidia&#8217;s market cap surpassing it means the company is now larger than every European economy, including the UK $4.26tn (\u20ac3.65tn), France $3.6tn (\u20ac3.08tn), Italy $2.74tn (\u20ac2.35tn) and Spain $2.09tn (\u20ac1.79tn).<\/p>\n<h2>Nvidia exceeds the combined GDP of 19 EU countries<\/h2>\n<p>Alphabet (\u20ac4.12tn) and Apple (\u20ac3.75tn) are also larger than every European economy except Germany. France (\u20ac3.08tn) surpasses Microsoft (\u20ac2.61tn) and Amazon (\u20ac2.46tn) in economic size. However, both companies still exceed Italy&#8217;s GDP (\u20ac2.35tn), the continent&#8217;s fourth largest economy.<\/p>\n<p>The combined GDP of the 19 smallest EU economies totals $5.02tn (\u20ac4.3tn), still short of Nvidia&#8217;s $5.7tn (\u20ac4.88tn) market capitalisation.<\/p>\n<p>Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang joined Donald Trump&#8217;s high-profile visit to China this week.
