Guys were showing up to film whenever they wanted to show up. Guys were missing meetings. It was one of the craziest things I\u2019ve personally ever experienced.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-container\">\n<div class=\"ad-wrapper article-treatment\">\n<div class=\"ad-slug-container\">\n<p class=\"ad-slug\">Advertisement<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"mid1\" data-position=\"mid1\" class=\"ad place-ad\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>This past season was Turner\u2019s first in Milwaukee after spending the first 10 years of his career with the Indiana Pacers, where Nate McMillan, Nate Bjorkgren and Rick Carlisle coached him.<\/p>\n<p id=\"article-pickem\">\n<p>\u201cBut any other team I\u2019ve been on, guys got fined,\u201d Turner said. \u201cThere was a sense of order and a sense of understanding. You\u2019re late to the plane, (you get a) fine. You\u2019re late to treatment: fine. You\u2019re late to film: fine. But I personally did not experience that last year for the first time in my career.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Turner\u2019s comments, which were made on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jYtF1NV9eZs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">latest episode of his podcast<\/a>, \u201cGame Recognize Game,\u201d shocked co-host and WNBA superstar forward Breanna Stewart. Stewart said her team\u2019s new coach, Chris DeMarco, who was an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors before taking the job, was handing out fines for missed free-throw box outs.<\/p>\n<div id=\"top-league-content-root\"><\/div>\n<p>    {&#8220;endpoint&#8221;:&#8221;https:\/\/api-prd-nyt.theathletic.com\/graphql&#8221;}<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the plane took off at 2 o\u2019clock, we weren\u2019t leaving until 4:30,\u201d Turner said. \u201cI\u2019m being so serious, bro. It was crazy. Guys were an hour late to the plane. It got to the point where I just knew not to show up until an hour after they said the plane was taking off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Turner said superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo was the biggest offender in being late.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiannis is gonna show up whenever he wants, really,\u201d Turner said. \u201cI think that just came with the territory. And once I kind of saw what was going down, I said, \u2018Hey, man, more power to you. They ain\u2019t gonna fine you. Do what you do.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though it was a surprise to hear a player so bluntly describe the situation, a lack of accountability and structure from the coaching staff is far from surprising after the 2025-26 season. Rivers acknowledged doing a poor job upholding standards in the locker room a few days after the season during an April 17 appearance on \u201cThe Bill Simmons Podcast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought one of the things that I\u2019ve always been known for is holding everyone accountable for everything, being on time, and I thought I was very lax on that this year,\u201d Rivers said. \u201cThere\u2019s reasons for that I can\u2019t get into, but it bothered me that I wasn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-container\">\n<div class=\"ad-wrapper article-treatment\">\n<div class=\"ad-slug-container\">\n<p class=\"ad-slug\">Advertisement<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"mid2\" data-position=\"mid2\" class=\"ad place-ad\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>With a 32-50 record, the Bucks missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade this past season. Antetokounmpo played in only 36 games, the fewest in his 13-year NBA career. Rivers, who served as the Bucks\u2019 head coach for the last 2 1\/2 seasons, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6969732\/2026\/04\/12\/doc-rivers-fired-bucks-coach\/\">stepped down from his position<\/a> immediately after the season, which opened the door for the Bucks to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7215792\/2026\/04\/23\/taylor-jenkins-bucks-head-coach\/\">hire Taylor Jenkins<\/a> as their new head coach on April 30.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the season, the Bucks dealt with drama surrounding Antetokounmpo\u2019s future in Milwaukee.
