Subnautica 2<\/a> has hit almost half a million concurrent players on Steam in its first hour of release. At the time of this article’s publication, Subnautica 2 was on an incredible 467,000 concurrent players on Valve’s platform, and developer Unknown Worlds confirmed the game had sold 1 million copies<\/a> within the first hour of launch. For an early access game that released on PC and Xbox Series X and S in the middle of a weekday, these numbers are pretty huge. It’s likely they will only grow from here, as word of mouth spreads and more players come online.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The critical reception to the game seems to be positive. We gave Subnautica 2’s early access launch a 7\/10 in our review<\/a>, noting that it’s fun, but it’s evident the game is still a work-in-progress. “It\u2019s pretty impressive that wading in the shallow tides of Subnautica 2’s Early Access debut is as fun as it is already, and that should be a great sign of things to come, but I also wouldn\u2019t blame anyone for waiting for these waters to rise a bit before getting their feet wet,” we said.<\/p>\n
