Astaxanthin also has some anti-inflammatory properties, as well as an ability to reinforce the skin barrier, which she says is particularly relevant for those with dry, sensitive, or overtreated skin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think of it as an antioxidant that supports structure, tone, and resilience simultaneously,\u201d Kobets says.<\/p>\n<h2>Who Should Use Astaxanthin?<\/h2>\n<p>Astaxanthin is generally well-tolerated and appropriate for most skin types \u2014 particularly those dealing with early signs of aging, dullness, or environmental exposure, Badreshia-Bansal shares. Even patients with sensitive skin can use it, she adds. In fact, because it tends to be less irritating than more aggressive active ingredients, those patients might actually prefer it over others. Because of its broad appeal, both doctors agree it can be used daily, often in a serum or moisturizer.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, there are a few considerations to keep in mind. \u201cPatients with carotenoid sensitivities, those on anticoagulants, and those who are pregnant or breastfeeding should use caution,\u201d Kobets warns.
